Meet Cristian Herrera | Tattoo Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristian Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cristian, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I’m a huge advocate for setting a sleep schedule and sticking to it, especially in a field where it’s so easy to fall into the habit of waking up when the shop opens up at noon. My morning routine helps me feel ready for the day and get out any morning jitters

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make art for the young at heart, I do my best to connect to that part of me that never grew up, and I apply that to my work, it’s never more complicated than making something I find cool or pretty. It’s the balance of art and play for me and I’m most excited when I get to walk that line of applying my years of practice and precision and…being silly. I work with purpose and have been a thoughtful ( or neurodivergent) person my entire life and approach tattooing in the same way, I practice ways to improve my craft through Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Graffiti and am always thinking of ways to improve the shared experience of tattooing with my clients wether that’s making them comfortable through a welcoming environment or breaking the tension of the pre-tattoo jitters with a joke or two. I feel extremely grateful for all of the amazing people who make my work possible and can’t explain what this work means to me. This is my favorite thing to do and I’m happy I get to do it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d have to get them fed first, and I’m a huge brunch guy, Linger would have to be one of our first stops a great view and a little morbid way to start the day. Afterwards check out the Denver Art Museum (an undefeated combo!) From there we can probably head to do something fun like catch an art walk on first Fridays, or head to a Rockies game for a beer, hotdog, and Rockies loss. Late night over at Puttshack is always a good time and we can wander over to the bars on Larimer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everyone who helped me on my tattoo journey, from the artists I’ve worked with at Mad Alchemist tattoo, Evolution tattoo, Street Hate, and Nocturnal 2 where I currently reside, by name id love it if you gave a look into;
Chase Foster, Ansley Lackey, Jacob Purinton, Aaron Cubbage, Jonny Agoes, Christian Cereceres and my own tat-daddies, my mentors Van Biard and Ben Granillo
