We had the good fortune of connecting with Dante Burl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dante, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I love this question and I have actually come to the conclusion that there isn’t always a work life balance, but a work life flow for me! I am BUSY 99% of the time, but I do make sure to take that 1% off haha. For me, I have definitely had to work at the work life flow and it has absolutely evolved over time. In my world, it might be a Monday or random Tuesday that I take “off” and for a long time that was really hard for me to accept. Feeling like while everyone else was working, i wasn’t. Was I being lazy? So I would find something that I could do and end up not taking the time off! But that doesn’t prove to be sustainable and is not the best for your mental health. I’ve learned and realized to give myself grace when I need it. If i’m taking a Tuesday off, it’s because I worked all weekend, and i deserved that mental break. Finding a work life balance is easier said than done, especially when working your own business, but my advice would be to find that flow and do not feel bad when you need to take a day or two. Give yourself grace, always!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business has two parts, Real Estate and Fitness Instructor. They are both my passions and that is why i continue to do both. I cant imagine my life without either of them! I have been in Real Estate for almost 6 years now, that is crazy to say, and I have always known it’s what I wanted to do. My degree is in Apparel Design & Merchandising and after graduating I realized pretty quickly that my career was not headed that way. So I started bartending and when I couldn’t handle that life anymore, I decided to get my RE license. My first year, like many new agents, was ROUGH. I almost quit, but knew that I could be good at this and If I just worked hard to build my business the sky was the limit. My second year in Real Estate was amazing and I have just been building since! I joined my amazing company Compass a little over a year ago, and they have helped me immensely with my business and growing it. The support of this company is incredible and allows me to do what i do best, build relationships! I think a lot of people think Real Estate is quick easy money and it is far from that. It CAN be that, but it takes a ton of work, discipline and sacrifice. It’s not always easy, but the rewards of helping people with the biggest transaction and life change in their life is beyond rewarding. There is no better feeling of helping people discover their ultimate goal! In Real Estate, and i’m sure many other industries, I have really learned that it’s all about building relationships. It’s so much more than a transaction, it’s an experience, and being able to be a part of that experience is such an honor. I pride myself as a Realtor who cares about my clients and their well-being. Creating lifelong relationships is my goal! I have been a Fitness Instructor for 4.5 years now, but have been an athlete my whole life. I played soccer at Arizona State University, and when I was done playing I wondered if I would ever get that fire for athletics back. Fast forward a few years and I got really into Spin classes. One of the instructors, shout out to you Kate, said I should be an instructor and before you knew it, I was! I love the camaraderie of group fitness and knowing that I am helping people along their fitness journey. I felt pretty good about where I was at, but felt like I could do more. I was feeling a little complacent, and then I found The Barre Code. Barre was a workout that I was very unfamiliar with, as I was used to hard intense cardio workouts, spin and weight lifting and that’s pretty much it. I took my first Barre class and was humbled to say the least. I left dripping sweat and shaking and felt like I had barely moved haha. It was more than just the workout though, it was the studio. I immediately felt at home. I dont know if it was the incredibly inspiring instructors, the music, or the dim lights, but every time I was in that space I felt good. I felt seen, appreciated and strong. I knew i wanted to do more with this community and so I auditioned to be an instructor, and here we are about 2 years later! The joy teaching brings me is immeasurable, and knowing im helping others along the way is my daily motivation. I recently got an email from a client from Chicago who takes my Livestream class every Thursday, thanking me for showing up and making an impact in her life. This year has been tough for the fitness industry and for everyone’s mental health. For a lot of people working out is their release or stress relief and many gyms have closed for good. This was the case for this particular client, and until I got that email I had no idea what an impact i was having by just showing up in my living room every thursday and teaching class. It’s those types of reminders that help me stay motivated to continue what I do and to try and impact people’s lives each day! I’ve definitely learned that even though you might not be having the best day or week, someone might be watching you and you might be that person that is keeping them going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man this is a loaded question because I feel like there are SO many fun things to do haha. I’m going to pretend this takes place in the summer, pre-covid haha. If my best friend was visiting for a week i would definitely do some Denver activities, but also head to the mountains for a few days! Monday- Friday I would say we would start our day with a good workout! Denver has some great studios, so I would obviously take her to The Barre Code, Soul Cycle one day, Fierce45, and Rise Nation! Those are a few of my faves! Then we would get a good brunch, I LOVE brunch. Some of my fave brunch spots are: A neighborhood favorite, Rupert’s at the Edge, which is right off of Sloan’s Lake, Barcelona in Rino, or Postino! We would then do some shopping either at the Cherry Creek Mall or browse the boutiques in Cherry Creek or on Tennyson st! Napping will most likely happen haha and then delicious dinner or HH somewhere! Can you tell I like good food and drink 🙂 Some of my favorite HH places are: Postino again, Cochino Taco, and Uchi! Favorite dinners are Matsuhisa, Barcelona, Uchi, North Italia, Safta, and the list could go on and on! Come Friday, we would head up to the Mountains, either Winter Park or Breckenridge. Get a cute Airbnb, enjoy a hike or two, obviously a good brunch and walk around the cute mountain towns! The mountains in the summer are so beautiful and relaxing! That would be my ultimate bestie vacation here in CO!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The cliche saying of “it takes an army” is so true. I absolutely could not be where I am today without a ton of people and places! My athletic background and career has definitely given me the drive and discipline that I carry, but the people and organizations in my life are what keep me going! The businesses that I work for, Compass and The Barre Code, are truly the most incredible companies I have ever been a part of. I can honestly say I dont think i could do better in that department. The support, community, and integrity of these companies aligns perfectly with me and I can’t imagine not having eithers support. My husband, family and friends are what keep me sane and motivated! I have THE BEST friends and family anyone could ask for. Each one of them supports me 100%, even when they think I’m crazy for doing what I do, and I can’t ask for anything more. My husband, who is in the Real Estate industry as well, supports me in everything I do and never questions me, which in turn keeps me motivated! I am constantly challenging myself and evolving as a person, but none of it would be possible without my support system. They are the real MVP’s!
