We had the good fortune of connecting with Davey Daydream and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Davey, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
If you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life – or is it do what you love and work every day of your life? For most of mine I’ve taken on every opportunity offered, often booking a madman’s schedule without days off.
In 2021 our brands Aisle Finesse & GoodDream.CO, took on just about every client that came our way. By the end of August I was ready for a break that didn’t come till October.
I’ve worn all the hats, even if they didn’t fit, until a turning point where the workload could be shared and incentivized.
It took more time to grow our collective than if I were to have continued working alone but as responsibility’s been divided across a team my work-life balance has improved.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Work-life balance is essential though art & business calls for its own balancing act.
When I was young I used to dream of the rockstar story bout “getting signed.” At this point, if I were gonna get a face-tat it’d probably say DIY.
I’ve earned a handful of titles:
videographer, editor, & musician/DJ are the fun ones…
project manager / HR / “dispatch”, marketing, sales, etc. makes the creative flow possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Tis the season – we’d have to hit the slopes and if they’re looking for aprés ski then Breck is a must. It’s been fam vibes every time I’ve played at Gold Pan Saloon & RMU though any night out in Breck is like trick-or-treat bar-hopping.
If we’re sticking around Denver we could head to Dazzle for a glass of wine to pair with dinner and a show. GoodDream.CO filmed Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles there this past summer, looking forward to their next set! If they’d prefer a dancefloor, we catch some local electronic artists at Your Mom’s House – maybe Boogie Lights, Chando, or The Orchestrator. I could go into schedule for a week long trip with pit stops at Temple, Bar Standard, Cervantes, Black Box, and more though the only one I know who makes itineraries for vacations is my mom.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout Sean Tanner, my first real video client (circa 2014), a mentor, and a friend.
From multiple out-of-state big budget trade show recaps to a music video for his daughter’s first recorded song, we’ve covered the spectrum in business and friendship.
…
Shoutout Joe Smith, the classiest old school gangster rockstar I know.
We met at a cyc wall photo/video studio when we rented neighboring desks. Over COVID we were the only people there. I bared witness as he wrapped up his last visual media clients to shift his focus to his jazz band (and now GoodDream.CO client) Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles.
…
Shoutout Amber & Mike Handby;
an entrepreneurial force – Ignight Entertainment,
passionate promoters of sober night life – Secret Dance Addiction,
and a romantic DJ duo – Double Crush.
Their tandem workflow and artistic approach literally marries hard-hitting, ambitious bass-lines with harmonious, melodic sentiment. We’ve collaborated on about 5 events so far and I look forward to witnessing their exponential growth across their spectrum of talent.
…
The first three go out to a few of my nominations though I can’t forget my nominator…
Shoutout Boogie Lights (Mark Henrichs).
We met about 5 years ago at Boulder House (quick shout out – Reid Pellegrin) and connected over our approach to mixing live musicianship with electronic music. At this stage, GoodDream.CO covers mosts of his visual media production while Aisle Finesse helps fill his calendar.
He’s a real one who’s in it for the endgame.
