We had the good fortune of connecting with David Kon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting WealthFluent was born from my own experience as a finance enthusiast wrestling with a complex portfolio. The available tools—clunky spreadsheets, expensive advisors, or generic platforms—fell short of addressing my unique financial goals and the dynamic nature of the market. So, with my partners, I set out to build a platform for ourselves, one that leveraged cutting-edge technology and data analytics to integrate real-time market data, personalized financial objectives, and sophisticated portfolio management into a single, intuitive tool.

As we built WealthFluent, we realized our frustrations were shared by many regular people—those with a passion for finance and intricate portfolios who lacked access to the advanced tools typically reserved for elite investment firms. This insight drove our mission: to create tools that empower everyday individuals to manage their finances themselves. We wanted to democratize professional-grade wealth management, enabling people to confidently navigate major decisions—like retirement planning, home purchases, or investment optimization—without relying on costly intermediaries.

Turning this vision into a business wasn’t a decision we made lightly. We carefully considered the challenges: developing secure, scalable software, making it intuitive for non-experts, and standing out in a competitive financial services landscape. But the opportunity to transform how people take control of their financial futures was too powerful to ignore. My background in finance, combined with my professor’s academic insights and my tech partners’ innovative capabilities, gave us the confidence to move forward. Our goal was to deliver tools that let people do it themselves, offering the same level of sophistication we’d built for our own needs, tailored for anyone with financial curiosity and complex financial situations.

Starting WealthFluent was about empowerment. By providing a platform that simplifies complexity, adapts to life’s changes, and puts professional-grade tools in the hands of everyday investors, we’re enabling people to manage their wealth on their own terms. That mission, rooted in our own experiences, continues to guide everything we do.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
WealthFluent is an AI-powered comprehensive wealth management platform that empowers individuals and families to take full control of their financial futures. What truly sets us apart is our role as the only all-in-one Financial Intelligence Platform, providing users with a complete suite of personalized, data-driven tools—from budgeting and investment tracking to advanced portfolio optimization and decision-making guidance. Unlike traditional wealth management services that often rely on generic advice or high fees, we harness cutting-edge AI to deliver tailored insights that evolve with your life, making sophisticated financial strategies accessible to everyone, not just the ultra-wealthy.

We’re most proud of and excited about our commitment to democratizing financial empowerment through AI innovation. We’ve built a platform that doesn’t just manage money—it anticipates needs, simulates scenarios, and guides users toward optimal outcomes in real time. Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to expand our AI capabilities even further, helping people navigate complex decisions like retirement planning, tax strategies, and market volatility with unprecedented precision and ease. It’s rewarding to see users transform from feeling overwhelmed by finances to confidently steering their own paths.

Our journey to this point has been anything but easy. As a bootstrapped startup founded on principles of integrity and independence, we’ve grown organically without relying on external investors who might compromise our vision. This path started from our second and third careers—drawing on decades of experience in finance, technology, and entrepreneurship—to create something truly meaningful. We bootstrapped every step, from initial development to scaling our user base, which meant wearing multiple hats, iterating endlessly on prototypes, and navigating regulatory hurdles in a rapidly evolving fintech landscape.

The challenges were numerous: limited resources forced us to prioritize ruthlessly, technical setbacks in AI integration tested our resilience, and market skepticism toward a newcomer required us to prove our value through results. We overcame these by staying laser-focused on user needs, fostering a lean and collaborative team culture, and partnering selectively with like-minded experts who shared our ethical standards. Each obstacle became an opportunity for innovation, leading to breakthroughs like our proprietary AI algorithms that deliver hyper-personalized recommendations without sacrificing privacy or transparency.

Along the way, we’ve learned invaluable lessons: First, integrity pays off—building trust with users is more sustainable than chasing quick wins. Second, bootstrapping demands discipline but fosters creativity; it taught us to validate ideas efficiently and pivot without bureaucracy. Third, altruism and impact drive longevity—focusing on genuine value for users has been our north star, reminding us that true success comes from empowering others.

Ultimately, we want the world to know that WealthFluent isn’t just a tool; it’s a movement toward financial autonomy for all. Our brand story is one of passion, perseverance, and purpose: founded by seasoned professionals who left established careers to bridge the gap between complex finance and everyday people. We’re here to prove that with the right technology and mindset, anyone can achieve financial fluency, confidence, and prosperity—without gatekeepers or hidden agendas. We’re building a future where wealth management is intuitive, inclusive, and truly transformative.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
City Park in Denver is awesome, Museum, Lake, and Zoo. Big fan of Cherry Creek North, You have to visit Boulder to hike and eat great food. If you can get to Ski towns or Rocky Mountain National park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m deeply honored to be part of the Shoutout series, and when I reflect on who’s been instrumental in my journey with WealthFluent, my heart first goes to my wife, Dr. Shelley Kon. Her love, encouragement, and unwavering support have been the foundation of everything I’ve accomplished. From late-night brainstorming to navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship, she’s been my anchor, offering wisdom, patience, and a steadfast belief in our mission to empower everyday people with professional-grade financial tools. As an accomplished infectious disease specialist and leader in her field, her drive and perspective inspire me daily—whether she’s advancing healthcare or cheering me on as we work to democratize wealth management. This shoutout is for her—without Shelley, I wouldn’t be here.

I also want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my father and brother, my partners in this venture. My father, a finance professor, ignited my passion for reimagining financial planning. His expertise in financial theory and wealth management helped me see the gaps in the industry when I was frustrated with clunky tools and costly advisors as a finance enthusiast with a complex portfolio. That frustration led us to build WealthFluent for ourselves, using cutting-edge technology and data analytics to create a platform that integrates real-time market data, personalized goals, and sophisticated portfolio management. My brother’s partnership has been equally vital, bringing his perspective and dedication to our shared vision. Together, we’ve poured our hearts into making WealthFluent a reality, driven by a mission to create tools that let everyday individuals, including high net worth investors, manage their finances themselves—enabling them to confidently tackle decisions like retirement planning or investment optimization without relying on expensive intermediaries.

My sons, Meir and Ezra, also deserve a special shoutout for their unique insights that have helped shape WealthFluent. Their brilliant minds—Meir with his love for coding and logic puzzles, and Ezra with his exceptional creativity and problem-solving—have offered fresh perspectives that pushed us to make the platform more intuitive and engaging for users. Their curiosity and innovative thinking remind me daily why we’re building tools to empower the next generation of financial decision-makers.

Our distinguished advisory board—experts Frank J. Fabozzi, Shaun William Davies, Amos Nadler, and Danna Gilbert—deserves recognition for their decades of experience in finance, economics, behavioral finance, and strategic innovation. Their guidance has been invaluable in ensuring WealthFluent is robust and impactful. I’m also inspired by two entrepreneurial heroes: Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. Jobs’ revolutionary work at Apple and Musk’s boundary-pushing ventures like Tesla and SpaceX showed me what’s possible when you dare to rethink industries and aim to change the world. Their examples fueled my ambition to make WealthFluent a transformative force in wealth management.

I’m endlessly grateful for my wife’s support, the partnership of my father and brother, the insights from my sons, Meir and Ezra, the guidance of our advisory board, my mother’s patience and encouragement, and the belief of key family and friends who invested in WealthFluent. Together, their faith in our mission to empower people to take control of their financial futures has driven me forward. So, to all mentioned —thank you for making WealthFluent possible!
