We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jacqueline Berens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Jacqueline, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Most health practitioners practice what’s called symptom-based care, a method that treats symptoms instead of identifying the underlying causes of dysfunction in the body. Because of this, the idea of simply managing debilitating symptoms has become quite common. At The Wellness Way, we believe that common is not normal, and unlike the restrictive healthcare mentality, we dig deeper to find answers to life-restricting health challenges. We focus on overcoming the three main causes of interference in the body — trauma, toxins, and thoughts — to go beyond symptoms-based care and address your unique physiology in ways that allow your mind and body to find a path back to total wellness. Here, you are doing more than improving your health. You are transforming your life with the essential guidance to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. That’s The Wellness Way difference. Here, we put your health back in your hands. Where it belongs.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Owning a growing business is hard work. Growth in any business is good, and when your business grows, you have to be ready to grow with it both personally and professionally. One major lesson I learned along the way is to always keep my priorities in line. As a business owner, a wife, a mother, and a doctor, I have to take care of myself first! I cannot be any of those things let alone great at these things if I am not taking care of myself first. My mentor, Dr. Patrick Flynn, put it this way, “you can’t fill up others from an empty cup.” No entrepreneur can have a great business without a great team. In 2017, my husband retired from the fire department for good and I brought him in to be my practice manager. He leads our office and fills all the gaps in the areas that I am not necessarily good at in the business. I have learned that you cannot be great at everything so you must surround yourself with those people that are great in areas that you are not. A proper clinical diagnosis can’t be made on symptoms alone. Finding the missing piece to your overall health requires looking at the bigger picture. That’s why we use powerful and proven laboratory testing to create a truly personalized insight into your body to help you overcome the health problems caused by the Three T’s, Trauma, Toxins and Thoughts. Incomplete testing leaves practitioners shooting in the dark. Complete testing provides the whole picture and guides the next steps. We work with a number of leading labs throughout the country to bring patients the most innovative and powerful testing. At The Wellness Way, diagnostic testing is the foundation of what we do to get you back to your best health. We will stop at nothing to uncover the health concerns that are holding you back. Once you find the missing piece to your health, you will discover a renewed sense of hope, purpose and understanding of your body. This is the first step to restoring your health.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado is a beautiful state that has so much to offer. There are all types of adventures to experience. Our favorite thing to do as a family is enjoy the beautiful outdoors. The possibilities are endless but some must sees are Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Rocky Mountain National Park, Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, Buena Vista, and Mount Princeton Hot Springs.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so grateful and blessed to walk through life with my husband, Paul. He has been what’s pushed me to learn more, go deeper and keep moving forward. We have been through so much and it just keeps getting better and better every hurdle or challenge we tackle together.
