We had the good fortune of connecting with Ed OConnor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ed, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Early in my career my primary focus was on immersing myself in sports performance coaching, and gaining as much experience as possible. I had the fortunate opportunity to work at the collegiate level and private sector early in my career. After leaving the collegiate level, and shifting my focus towards youth athletic development, I decided to go out on my own.

I had quality coaching opportunities, and a colleague that shared a similar vision to provide comprehensive programs to athletes in the south metro Denver area. We felt as though we could do things differently, blending the latest training methods, technology, and our coaching principles into helping athletes have a positive training experience.

2020 was a wild ride, especially for gym owners, and that is when I started Adapt Athletics after numerous years as a employee then business owner. Taking the leap to 100% on my own presented many challenges, but has been a very exciting experience.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We put a strong emphasis on the training experience at Adapt Athletics. The results, progress, and quantifiable improvement are all essential, but many youth athletes lack a foundation of positive coaching and training.

Although families these days have jam packed schedules, the quality in their week is what we hope to provide. We want people to have the best 60 minutes of their day, while also helping them become stronger, faster, more explosive.

It all really started with relationships, and continues to grow based on great relationships. Watching kids start out as middle-schoolers and then someday hopefully attending their graduation day or signing day to play collegiate athletics. If we can extend their athletic career in any way, we feel like it’s a victory as strength coaches.

Overcoming challenges is part of sport, and training. The name Adapt Athletics is simple, striving to provide a positive athletic adaptation, while also building resilience and habits that drive people to become more adaptable to challenges and adversity outside of sport.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Head to the mountains of course! Growing up in the small town Westcliffe, Colorado I was spoiled to have such and incredible back yard of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. A great place to camp and hike, that would definitely be on the itinerary.

Next would be the San Juans, adding Telluride, Ouray area for the views, food, and give them a dose of the tourist experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to Jim Warren, who paved the way for me to go out on my own. He taught me countless lessons in business ownership, coaching, and relationships. I wouldn’t be where I am at now if it were not for him.
