We had the good fortune of connecting with Eli Kisko and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eli, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I began my business because I wanted to share my ability to be creative, to help educate people on impactful decision making around design choices in their business. I believe as humans we recognize logical patterns in our world, and design can act as a recognizable series of logic we use to better experience the world we are a part of. My years at college taught me that the world of design can be anything you can imagine and execute. Everything we have created as humans, physical or digital, went through a research and design process of sorts. Every detail has been thought of and executed with intention by someone. So as I started to grow as an artist and business owner, this thought provoked endless possibilities in my freedom to create, and drove me to pursue a career making a design company of my own.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My main mission is to communicate to the world by using clean intentional design that helps people experience their business. My main creative focus being branding involves a widespread of applications including; logos, packaging, branding standards, advertising, sign design, UX/UI, websites, vehicle wraps and more. Regardless of the creative challenge, the goal to make sure we have a mix of utility and aesthetic that captures a cohesive vibe for the client remains. These choices all come from a mix of collaborative brainstorming to understand our client, strategic design standards to implement their vision, and proper education on why we make our decisions so they can move forward with confidence.
I’ve learned a lot about my needs as a creative through this process, the following are a few. One, a plan does not restrict creativity, it helps guide the vision to the right finish line. Two, my services are not for everyone! I take a fairly complex and in depth approach to understanding you and your business before designing, and some people don’t have the time or energy to put into creating a meaningful brand.
Three, I love to create with purpose and reason. As a kid I would often draw my classmates names in the morning. Looking back I have realized it was the fact that they were included and expressed in my artwork that they were drawn to what I was doing. So I adapted my business to give people a platform to understand their business intentions so we can effectively express their brand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in a mountain community makes it pretty easy to find adventures in or out of town. The itinerary must include coffee every morning, can’t start the day without watching a sunrise with some coffee! Spots to visit include various hikes/mountain peaks, bike riding some trails, skiing in the winter is a must, fly fishing the rivers, or a downtown longboard ride to dinner. If you’re into shopping or hungry, mainstreet has lots of options to browse for the day and plenty of artwork to find hidden around town. I personally prefer hitting the grocery store and cooking at home with guests for some good kitchen prep and cooking social time. Time to relax? Well good thing my buddy builds some beautiful custom crafted saunas and has one for rent in the foothills. If not the hot springs are just down the road fit with all the amenities you could ever need to find your zen. Plenty of parks to visit for some daytime hammocking or frisbee, and plenty of dogs to go with it.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The statement “you can not do it alone” rings too true when you start a business. Whether it’s advice, brainstorming, accountability, personal check-ins, gut checks, help rationalizing, having a system of support through your venture is something I can’t stress enough.
For me that group/individual is a local mastermind started by an incredible person named Nick. It has been incredible to have such an amazing group of people around me I feel I can count on and help push me when I need it.
