We had the good fortune of connecting with Eliza Jane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eliza, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always knew I had big dreams. It took a little time to fine-tune the details, but eventually, I realized I love weddings and I love planning events. I took a leap of faith and build my business from the ground up. It started with a smaller company that was a partnership and focused on wedding planning, stationery design, and photography. I always credit my previous company Crafted Around You and my previous business partner because, without that, I wouldn’t have developed Eliza Jane Events which focuses solely on planning. The drive behind my business was to create a fully customized wedding planning process. Most couples see their wedding day as one of the most important days of their life and I wanted to make that a seamless process that they could truly enjoy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally? We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
We take on about 15-20 weddings each year. It is combination of Full-Service and Partial-Planning luxury wedding clients. What sets Eliza Jane Events apart from other Wedding Planning Companies is our attention to detail. We are a small and intimate team that knows every detail of your day. All of my clients have my cell and can reach out whenever they need something. From vendor recommendations, food tastings, day of logistics, or just an ear to listen my clients feel supported every step of the way.

This business has been the most challenging and rewarding thing I have ever pursued. Owning a business is not for the faint-hearted. It challenges me every day but I am beyond grateful for my driven team and how we continue to grow. I have a business mindset that you just have to figure it out. I know it sounds simple but it’s what I’ve always done. If I do not know the answer, it is time to invest in my development, and is an opportunity for growth. Also, I’ve never been afraid to ask for help.

One key lesson I’ve learned along the way is to support others in the industry and never have a cut-throat mentality. Everyone you meet can teach you something.

If there is one thing I’d want others to know is that we are a team of hard-working and driven individuals. We are kindhearted and put %110 effort into each wedding we take on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooo that’s a tough one. Well, we are Rochester based so in our hometown I’d recommend taking a walk at Cobbs Hill, grabbing a coffee at Rococo, and heading out to the Lake House at Canandaigua for a dinner at The Rose Tavern.

If we are in Denver for a wedding, I’d say brunch at Snooze, an A.M. Eatery and dinner at The Greenwich.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My faith has been primary in my life and God has blessed this business from the ground up. Secondly, my mom, dad, and family taught me a great work ethic and that you have to keep pushing forward.

Thanks to my Gram who is an incredible woman with unmatched drive and determination.

I owe a thank you to one of my favorite bosses, Jamie Beers-Wilson, who truly taught me a great deal. She was an encouraging leader who demonstrated a calm demeanor in even the most stressful situations. She taught me how to lead, coach, and work with a variety of personalities. I honestly cannot begin to thank her enough for being an amazing boss and a great friend.

I want to thank The College at Brockport and all my other mentors there (Mike Andriatch & Kelly Cary, to name a few!)
