Meet Emma Halet | elopement + wedding photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Halet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emma, why did you pursue a creative career?
Funny story. I actually hated art growing up. Not art itself, but making art. I had no patience for learning painting techniques, sketching, sculpting, etc. I would fly through art projects just to be done with them and usually get a low grade on my projects because my art teacher could see I wasn’t trying. Going into high school, I needed a year of art to graduate and thought, “Better get this over with.” So I signed up for a photography class because, in my mind, photography was a fast form of art. I could take 5 photos and BAM! My project would be completed, and I could move on. After I photographed my first project (focused on natural textures), I pulled up my photos on my desktop so my classmates could see my work. To my surprise, some classmates accused me of stealing someone else’s photos and claiming them as my own because my work was too good. It was at that moment that I knew I had found something I was good at. I went on to take photography classes every year of high school until I graduated. After high school, I enrolled in college and got my A.A.S. in Photography and Digitial Imaging. A year after graduating from college in 2017, I launched my portrait photography business, specializing in wedding photography, and haven’t looked back.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think there is nothing harder than taking having skills in the art field and trying to make a business out of your artistic talent with no business experience. Luckily for me, my dad has been running his own business for decades and gave me amazing business advice straight off of the bat when I opened up my own business. We discusses taxes, perks of regeristing my business as an LLC, bookkeeping, business dedictions, etc. If you’re a new business owner and have no idea where to start when it comes to running your business, please reach out to me! I love sharing business information with new entrepreneurs. What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
I understand that planning a wedding is not a normal thing for my clients to do and therefore offer a wedding planning guide that has a TON of wedding planning advice in it. I also give my clients a link to vendors I’ve worked with in the past and trust that they would give my clients an easy experience. My mission is to give my couples a stress-free wedding experience. Before the wedding, during the wedding, and after the wedding. I am here to help my clients in any way I can. I give my clients all of the tools they need to make their big day go as smoothly as possible and get amazing photographs in the process. My clients tell me all of the time how much fun they had during their wedding or engagement session and how amazing the photos look. Nothing makes me happier and feel more fulfilled than when my clients love the photos I deliver to them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love fellow supporting small businesses so first I would take my best friend to Pearl Street Mall in Boulder and the Tennyson Street strip and RiNo area in Denver. I’m a sucker for plant shops, coffee shops, and home decor shops. That evening we would head to Por Wine House in Louisville for dinner and drinks. They make the most amazing cocktails! I try to plan time in the mountains every time someone comes to visit so the rest of our time would probably be spent at an Airbnb somewhere in the mountains, preferably by Glenwood Springs. The Iron Mountain Hot Springs is my favorite place to visit out west for relaxation. Glenwood Springs has an amusement park at the top of a mountain called Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. I don’t think there’s anything like zipping around on a roller coaster at the top of a mountain. Glenwood Springs is also near many hiking areas and not too far from the Snowmass/Aspen area if we wanted to go out for a fancy breakfast or dinner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I’d like to thank my high school photography teacher, Ms. Henry. She was the one who saw potential in me and encouraged me to keep learning and keep being creative. Second is my parents, who saw my love of photography in high school and didn’t bat an eye when I said I wanted to go to college for photography. They paid for my education and purchased my first ‘big girl’ camera and lens for me which in turn, launched my photography business. I want to thank my grandparents who have enormous prints of my landscape photography in their house and show my work off to everyone who enters their home. Lastly, I’d like to thank my many, many friends who were forced to be my models throughout high school and college for photography projects.
