We had the good fortune of connecting with G-Stylez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi G-Stylez, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a kid I was always into art and music. But once I started taking art classes in college I realized I didn’t want to pursue that particular career path. I had already been writing songs and recording them since I was around 12 years old. I began with a karaoke machine and then I upgraded to an analog mixer board. I was self taught but I did get some tips from producer friends of mine. I started getting heavy into music my sophomore year and recorded my first serious demo. I started booking gigs and submitting my music to radio stations and a select few record labels. I was offered a few record deals including one from Warner Bros but decided to decline. I ended up going the independent route and I haven’t regretted it since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a combination of things but it is mostly inspired by day to day life and situations. I always used my music as a way to vent and escape from harsh realities. I feel like the things i’ve been through and the different circles I ran with set me apart from others. I have hung out with everybody from gangs to nerds and had good and bad experiences with all of them. I feel like I can understand and fit in with all different clicks and it helps me create music everyone can vibe to. I am probably the most proud of my consistency. I have not taken a break from music since I started. I have managed to put out projects every year despite the chaos in my life. Instead of giving up after all the struggle I turned my stress and depression into fuel for my songs. My music has become something I can leave as a legacy for my family and others. I can look back on every song and it sparks up a memory or feeling for me. I was self taught and have always been an independent artist. That is another thing I am very proud of.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am honestly not a big time city person so fun to me is mostly outdoors. I would go fishing, hiking, ride ATVs, and cook some BBQ on the disc or grill. Maybe go to a comedy club or concert if we need a break from outdoor activities. I would take them to different restaurants and the movie theatre as well. To me that is some of the funnest things to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family, Playaz Cru (CO Hip-Hop Group), KRZA Community Radio, 8000 Feet Productions, and all the artists i’ve worked with.
