We had the good fortune of connecting with Gannon Ruby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gannon, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I was little I have been so picky and opinionated about foods I thought that food just wasn’t very good in general. However one day I went on a trip to California to see my uncle Peter Jacobsen, owner of Jacobsen orchards in Napa Valley. He made me realize the beauty of food and how much happiness could come from it. It lit a fire in me to begin my journey with culinary, and it’s been my passion since then.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have struggled with encouraging myself my whole life. Since I was little I was way smarter than most people around me I thought school was easy and it became so easy that I lost the challenge and excitement to even try anymore. I began flunking tests just so I would have a reason to try and catch up. It got boring, I was about to go into aerospace engineering but I realized it would just be the same thing over and over again I wanted a challenge and a change of pace. So I went into culinary, there I realized yes there are people who are not smart and I am so far ahead but I also saw that there were people way ahead of me and even the people behind me had strengths I didn’t have or I had strengths no one else had. It was finally a chance to try my hardest to make something good happen.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have one place. I’ve only ever showed it to one person. We get fruit, kiwis, something exotic we haven’t tried, and something small we like like raspberries, then we get candy, then we wake up at 4:30am and go to this place that no one knows about you hike part of a trail cut through some trees climb up a rock climb up a tree climb up a cliff then sit down and turn around and watch the most beautiful sunset and eat the fruit. It’s amazing it’s always where I go for some alone time and to think and to inspire me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Peter Jacobsen my uncle, Korbyn foss my friend and determined roomate, and Kanyon rechsteiner my roomate and overly proud friend
