Meet Giovanni Ortega Flores | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Giovanni Ortega Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Giovanni, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my career has taught me is that consistency is a discipline. Finding the motivating reasons for doing what I do are integral to how I work and the impact my creations have. Understanding these reasons are what have helped me through the high and low points when they come up. Above all, they are what impact the approach I take to my business as well as the mindset which fuels it.
Consistency is the key to success. The motivations are integral because they provide a basis for strong discipline with a growth mindset. Ensuring the best quality and continuing to improve on what works is made possible through these essential motivations.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Capturing Life’s Cinematic Moments wherever they are. I love the work I do and it is only made possible through the people I work with. Enjoying what I do inspires me to grow as a person through what I create artistically and the bridges I build with people. I believe video and photography can have an intimate way of connecting with people through captivating stories.
I am most proud of the ability to explore any project and experiment with diverse ideas. I enjoy incorporating those ideas through collaboration and pushing the boundaries of each project. This can range from music videos, brand films for local businesses, to cinematic travel reels. I also like to learn a lot of bigger lessons from each specific project to continue improving my process and streamlining efficiency.
A huge challenge for me was finding how to differentiate myself as a creative. To this day, I continue to explore the possibilities and push the boundaries for myself and my work. At the core, I want to highlight the cinematic moments of everyday life and the stories that connect us as people. The stories, methods, style, and techniques may vary greatly from project to project, but the goal of connecting with people is priority.
To me, my brand and story revolves around the people I work with and the dreams we wish to achieve. It is a mosaic made from the collective stories of the human experience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are plenty of great spots to eat like Sushi Para II in Lincoln Park for a BYOB all you can eat dinner. Some of the best shawarma I’ve had is in Burbank greatly named Best Shawarma. Tasty Ethiopian cuisine is served at Demera by Uptown with mouth savoring selections. Wu’s House in Palos Park provides a memorable Hibachi experience.
A bike ride on the Lakefront Trail is always a pleasant time, especially over the summer. Why not explore the museum campus nearby with plenty of exhibitions and attractions at the Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetarium, and more.
Grant Park has some great events year round as well as the theater at Millennium Park with an open design that has a great view of the skyline. Around Navy Pier are several boat rides on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan that can take you for a fast, thrilling ride or a quaint architectural tour of the Chicago.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Daniel Luna of Luniks Entertainment, his support at the beginning of my journey helped me learn many valuable lessons in my craft and work. We have documented several Luniks Entertainment weddings which have allowed me the space to be creative and improve my quality.
His trust and encouragement in me allowed for great ideas to come to life. Collaborating on fresh approaches to take with each project provided an opportunity to explore the possibilities. Above all, we developed a great relationship while capturing the greatest moments of what wedding DJs do best!
