Meet Hannah Hood | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Hood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
When I first started taking photos, it was right after my daughter was born. I remember panicking about being off work for maternity leave and not having the income coming in. I remember attempting to take my own newborn photos because I didn’t have the money to get them professionally taken. I just remember the stress. All of this lead to me really enjoying capturing my daughters life behind the lens and wanting to do the same for others. I put my all into making your sessions as stress free as possible while also keeping them affordable as possible. I just want people to remember that I genuinely love what I do and I don’t only want people to remember the pictures they receive in their gallery but the whole experience. I want people to say dang, she really cared about us. I never want people to feel like they’re a job to me, I want them to feel like we’re lifelong friends or family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say my dedication and focus is what I’m most proud of. I’m a full time kindergarten teacher with a 3 year old daughter, on top of running my photography business. Most of the time I feel like there isn’t enough time in the day. How do you plan lessons for your class, show up fully as a mom, be present in your relationship, keep the house clean, spend time with friends and family, take a second for yourself, answer emails, respond to clients, shop for the decor and setups for your sessions, take the photos, edit the photos, pencil in some time to sleep, etc. I think that has been my hardest challenge, figuring out how to accomplish everything that I want without feeling like I’m drowning. I’m not saying I’m perfect at it but I’m learning everyday and that’s all that matters to me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a huge Maryland crab girly! So first stop would be a backyard BBQ with a couple dozen crabs and some surfsides. Anywhere on the water with a good orange crush would be second on the list. Probably a beach day. A sushi date. Live music somewhere. A trip to downtown Annapolis just because I feel like if you’re visiting MD, you can’t skip over a DTA trip.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I first decided that I wanted photography to be more than just a hobby, I reached out to my photographer who did my maternity photos asking if she would be interested in being my mentor. Without hesitation, she said yes. I did a few one on one sessions with her until I moved farther away but I really wouldn’t be where I’m at today without her help. Miranda Mckay from Miranda McKay Photography is not only an amazing photographer but also a super genuine person that I am thankful to have crossed paths with.
