We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Allam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heidi, what is the most important factor behind your success?
One of the most important factors behind my success would be having a growth mindset. For every single aspect of my life. My faith, my leadership, marketing, marriage, parenting, finances, etc. I’ve owned my own business for the last 12 years and over those years there have been good and not as good business years and also good/not as good personal years. I think there is a balance of leaning into the good years and running when everything is going great. Then during the slower years to lean into yourself, work on yourself, learn, and become better in whatever area of your life that you feel needs some personal work.

I’ve also had to learn that some of the old ways from a decade ago aren’t maybe what’s going to work today. Or what worked in Minnesota (where I’m from) might not work as well here in Colorado. I’ve had to learn to be adaptable, take advice from other business owners in the area, and constantly try new ways to market to continue to see growth!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My husband and I own Blend Nutrition in downtown Loveland. We are really excited to bring this concept to Loveland and to offer a healthy lunch option. We serve up energy teas and nutrient dense meal replacement shakes. It’s food you can grab on the go that will leave you feeling energized vs how fast food can usually make you feel.

What sets us apart is that we create a community within Blend. It’s more than just good customer service. We love to get to know our customers, who they are and what they love to do. When you walk in you’re not only going to get your shakes and teas but also positive conversation and energy.

The biggest lesson we’ve learned along the way is to not get stuck in your ways. Marketing has changed so much over the last 12 years and every time we open a new location I feel like there is a whole learning curve with what works that year in that location. As a stubborn person who likes things not to change it was a challenge to learn how to be open to other’s ideas. It’s also been one of the biggest things that has led to our success though and we are so grateful to our circle!

We want people to know that we love our small town, we love our community, and we are so excited to be a family owned business here. We have a big vision to make an impact in Loveland!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We absolutely love living in Northern Colorado and so close to Rocky Mountain National Park. A few of our must go RMNP places would be Bear Lake (if you just want to be in the mountains without a hike) and Mills Lake if you want a great hike and some of the most beautiful scenery. We usually make a stop in Old Town Fort Collins and do some window shopping while we walk around. And we’ve become extremely partial to downtown Loveland! Verboten Brewery is a must for us, the Foundry area, shopping at Vintage Willows and Pilar Boutique and a stop at Mary’s Mountain Cookies for a treat. If we head out of town we love bringing family and friends to the Colorado Springs area or into the mountains to Breck or another resort town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Jacob. He has gone from a supportive significant other to my full on business partner. He’s always been the supportive person by my side encouraging me and cheering me on and I appreciate him so much!

I also have an incredible support circle from other business owners in the area. Sam & Amy Hendricks, owners of The Fort, who have been my business (and I feel like life) mentors for the last 12 years. Also, my two co-founders of Gather & Collab, a local women’s networking group: Rachel Cox, owner of Lumen Creative Co. and Betsy Jennings, realtor with Juszak Realty. They all have helped me look at things from different perspectives and viewpoints and I can attribute so much of my success to these relationships and the value they have brought into my life!
