We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Herman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heidi, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult business decision I’ve had to make, was to learn how to trust and believe in myself.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the ‘I can’t handle this’ or ‘I’m not good enough to be successful’ mindset and opportunities can then be lost. And when you have worked for others since day 1, it’s an easy mindset to stay in.
So, by creating my own business, it has helped develop a confidence that I didn’t have before, while working under someone else.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The business I own is all about dogs and adventures!
At Butternut Squash Dog Sitting, we treat our pack pups like family. We have regular daycare pups, that come several times a week and regular sleepover pups, that come when their humans are traveling. All of our pack pups get to go on hiking adventures, play with their friends, get bedtime stories, bubble baths and more! And what sets BSDS apart from others in our area, is that we become the pups’ family while they are staying with us.
I am most proud of the hard work the pups accomplish when they are adventuring with us. Some pups learn how to hike on rugged terrain or share their toys with their new friends during daycare and when they go home tired and rested from a hard days’ work, it makes me smile that it’s a ‘job well done’.
I want the world to know that pups’ need a healthy lifestyle, that challenges them to be the best pup they can be! Give them a job to do, reward them and give them lots of praise and stimulate their minds with games and new commands. Pups love a good challenge! And there are businesses out there, like Butternut Squash Dog Sitting, that are willing to provide the enrichment, hard work and appropriate stimulation to your pup.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
