We had the good fortune of connecting with Indy George and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Indy, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want SkyyLo’s legacy to be one of wonder, warmth, and wild imagination. Not just a cupcakery, but a ritual—a celestial pause in the day where joy feels edible and intention is baked into every crumb. Behind each handcrafted flavor is a story: of softness, of celebration, of rebellion wrapped in buttercream.

I hope to be remembered as someone who built beauty from scratch at high altitude—with spirit, not just flour. As a Black woman founder who didn’t wait for permission but created a universe where quiet magic could rise and be savored. I believe that I am creating a universe where quiet magic could rise and be savored.

And I hope SkyyLo is remembered as a cozy constellation of inclusion and belonging. In our celestial space, everyone is family. If we’ve offered comfort, sparked delight, or helped someone feel a little more seen, then the legacy is already alive.

What should our readers know about your business?
SkyyLo Cupcakery is more than a bakery—it’s a high-altitude haven where storytelling meets sweetness. We specialize in handcrafted cupcakes that feel like tiny pauses in time: edible moments of joy, crafted with intention and infused with wonder. What sets us apart isn’t just the unique flavor combinations—it’s the atmosphere we bake into every crumb. From our celestial aesthetic to our family-rooted origins, SkyyLo is designed to make people feel held, seen, and delighted.

I’m most proud of building SkyyLo with my kids at the center. Along with my husband, Michael, they’ve helped name flavors, taste-test batches, and inspire the entire vibe of the brand. Creating a business with them in mind has brought both accountability and magic—I’m not just baking; I’m legacy-building.

Getting to this point wasn’t easy. High-altitude baking is its own beast and so is launching a soulful brand while balancing motherhood, social media, entrepreneurship, and identity. There were recipes that flopped, moments of true and deep doubt, and seasons where resources and support felt scarce. But I keep going, guided by joy and the quiet belief that what I am building matters and deserves a place in the world.

The biggest lessons?

✨ Beauty takes time—and mess is part of the process
💪 Doing it differently, with more heart than hustle, is just as valid
🧁 Small acts (like offering someone a cupcake) can create ripple effects of belonging

Being introverted doesn’t mean I’m destined to fail.

SkyyLo was born from imagination and intention. We’re a place for anyone craving softness, a treat, and a little celestial spark. I want the world to know that we’re not chasing trends—we’re creating traditions.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
🌤 Day 1 — Flavor Fireworks & Feathered Philosophies If my best friend came to visit, we’d start with a trip straight to Bon Cons Korean Fried BBQ Chicken for a crunch so satisfying, we’d probably order seconds before finishing firsts. To recover from the flavor fireworks, we’d wander through Washington Park, debating whether ducks secretly run the city. (They do. We agreed.)

🦁 Day 2 — Animal Sightings & Fry Commitments It’s off to the Denver Zoo for a face-to-face with the giraffes—they never judge your outfit and always maintain eye contact. Lunch? Just fries. From Five Guys. No distractions, no compromise. They’re crisp perfection and deserve their own round of applause.

🛍️ Day 3 — Markets, Thrift, and Plant Whispering We’d weave through local farmers markets, treasure-hunt in thrift stores, and get emotionally attached to far too many houseplants at any shop with soil and sass. If you’ve never named a pothos, now’s the time. Mine would be called Gerald.

🖼️ Day 4 — Biscuits & Broadway Vibes Brunch at Denver Biscuit Company requires stretchy pants and zero regrets. Then we’d stroll down Broadway, popping into vintage shops, snapping mural selfies, and pretending we’re in an indie film montage with a killer playlist.

🎨 Day 5 — Culture, Coffee & Cozy Corners First stop: The Culture Museum—because history deserves both reverence and exploration. Then it’s time for a coffee crawl: Whittier Cafe for community-rooted vibes, and Drip Queen Coffee for divine espresso and royal treatment.

🍽️ Day 6 — Soul Food & Spiritual Stretching Welton Street Café hits every note—comfort, spice, soul. To digest both lunch and life, we’d head to Urban Sanctuary, where introverts stretch, breathe, and exist freely with no small talk required. Bliss.

🌙 Day 7 — Elevated Farewell & Frosted Goodbyes The week closes at Kind Love, where calm is curated and the vibe is velvet. Final destination? SkyyLo Cupcakery—where stardust is swirled into buttercream and goodbyes taste like sweet hellos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shoutout goes to my kids—they’re the heartbeat behind SkyyLo. From the very beginning, they’ve been more than inspiration; they’re co-creators in this celestial adventure. The name SkyyLo carries pieces of them, and their tiny hands have helped shape everything from flavor combinations to taste-testing rituals. They remind me, daily, why I’m building this family empire: not just for the sweet moments, but to craft a legacy that feels rooted in love, imagination, and belonging. Every cupcake holds a little bit of their joy.
