We had the good fortune of connecting with James Marienthal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me it happened organically, by following my intuition and acting on opportunities when it felt right. I got into record production because I wanted to learn more about the studio process. Then after producing one new album, I learned about the distribution side of the business so I could release that album to the public. I started a record label, Silver Wave Records, and followed the flow from there. Specifically, that flow meant releasing more albums to establish the label as a bona fide entity in the industry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m proud of the mission statement for Silver Wave Records, because I think it has been key to my success:

Our mission is to present quality innovative music to the world while being a positive force in people’s lives. We want to be a service to our customers, artists, employees, and colleagues, and treat all people with integrity and respect. We feel blessed to be able to earn our living in this endeavor and strive to give back to those in need and to our planet. We hope to touch people on a deep level, instill a sense of peace in all who listen, and, in that, help spread peace throughout the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would go to concerts at Chautauqua Auditorium and the Boulder Theater. We would ride bikes along the Boulder Creek trail. We would visit the Dushanbe Tea House. We would hike at Brainard Lake and Caribou Ranch Open Space.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this to my father, George Marienthal, whose success in the entertainment business was an inspiration to me, and whose legacy is honored in the film “Live at Mister Kelly’s” available on Amazon Prime.
