We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My Family. Without my family, my blog probably wouldn’t exist. While I do most of the work my family plays a big role in my blog and without them I wouldn’t have the successful blog that I have today. They are supportive when I need to work, they help behind the scenes with taste testing and various other tasks, and they’re always up for any adventure I present to them. Especially the adventures that take us to a new restaurant or somewhere fun a local play place or amusement park.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Denver Housewife is my blog where I share things related to raising my family. From fun adventures around Colorado, recipes kids can enjoy, free printables for kids like games and educational pages, and Craft projects with a Cricut machine.

I started my blog, The Denver Housewife, in 2011 when we first moved to Colorado. We moved away from all our family and friends and I didn’t know anyone in Colorado. I was a new stay-at-home mom and got the idea to start a blog to share with family. Since then that blog has grown into much more than I ever expected and taken our family on many fun adventures.

My blog has changed a lot over the years and I am loving where it is at right now. It hasn’t always been easy juggling being a mother and trying to grow a business, but it has been 100% worth it. I pride myself on being honest and helpful and want to help people with raising their families. Whether it’s making a fun snack for movie night, sharing some favorite local spots to visit, or giving their kids a fun printable to do so they can get a 5-minute break. If you follow me on Facebook I share funny memes related to parenting because I feel like laughter is the best medicine and needed to get through the stressful memes. I want my blog to be a helpful resource for parents and caregivers and by the feedback I’ve received from my readers over the years, it is.

Blogging has taught me a lot over the years. It’s taught me not to compare myself to other moms or businesses. Even if we are doing things similarly we all have something that sets us apart from each other. You just have to find what makes you stand out. It’s also showed me the kindness in others, taught me to be more organized, and that hard work does pay off. At the end of the day, blogging has changed my life and I love being able to help people while taking fun adventures with my family. Even if that adventure is just a movie night on our couch.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many great places around Denver and beyond to visit. When we’ve had family or friends come to visit our first stop is always somewhere delicious to eat like Snooze, Sams No 3, or Voo-Doo Donuts. Then it’s off to do some fun things. Our favorite places are Lava Island, Urban Air, or Boondocks for some kid-friendly fun. As for the adults, Red Rock Amphitheater and Garden of the Gods are always on our to-do list. Then to get the kids outdoors Dinosaur Ridge is fun for the family or visiting one of Denver’s great parks. Denver has some amazing playgrounds around the metro like Paco Sanchez Park or Red-Tailed Hawk Park in Aurora which is an inclusive park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There isn’t one person. When it comes to building a business there is a village involved, like when raising a family. My family has been monumental in helping to support my blog, but I have also made some pretty amazing friends along the way who have all helped me over the years. These friends have helped me find my worth, given advice, listened to my frustrations, and been a support system as we’ve grown our blogs together.

My shoutout would go to My family for always supporting my crazy ideas and my blogging community: Censie from Buildingourstory.com, Laura from wegotthefunk.com, AnnMarie from Annmariejohn.com, Jamela from by-pink.com, and Carissa from CreativeGreenLiving.com. There are lots more amazing women I’ve gotten to know over the years, but these 5 have been my biggest support over the last 10 years.
