We had the good fortune of connecting with JASON ZUMBRUNNEN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JASON, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I originally studied engineering, and while that profession paid well, it wasn’t fulfilling. So I started touring full time in a punk rock band, which was exciting but didn’t pay well! Brewing beer and starting a brewery seemed like a good balance of both worlds.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am proud that I have continued to challenge myself throughout my career. From engineering, to music, to brewing (and lot’s in between) I am happy that I have continued to say yes to new opportunities. They definitely have not all been successful but I am enjoying the journey. Our brewery Ratio Beerworks has been a great way to combine many passions into one. We love to connect to our community, and in particular support music and the arts, with beer as the conduit. Touring in a band, beer was the common denominator for us around the world as we made new friends and connections. The same holds true today. The only difference is we are the ones making the beer. We hope that beer can be a connector to making strong bonds in our communities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am partial to RiNo/Five Points, as I live and work in the area. Breakfast – Stowaway

Big concert venues: Mission Ballroom and Red Rocks

Bike path: Cherry Creek/Platte stopping for beers at Raices or biking through RiNo for brewery tours
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Christie! Taking the leap of faith with me, supporting me as I started in a brand new career, moving our family to Denver to take a shot at this dream. She went through all the lows and his with me, and ended up crushing it at her own career in interior design.
