We had the good fortune of connecting with Jean Walton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jean, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As long as I’ve been an adult, I have always taken risks for the chance to have an adventure. But I don’t even remember how it all started, because when I was younger, I was always worried about what could go wrong and how I might look to others. This very self-conscious mentality held me back from having those crazy sneaking-out-after-the-parents-go-to-bed stories that most people have at that age. Nowadays I’m like, “Is there a possibility of fun and adventure involved? Well then, count me in!” My brand is all about inspiring joyful moments and making lifelong memories. In order to do that, I must live it. So, I’m all about saying yes to every opportunity that comes up, to see where the adventure will take me.
There is definitely some risk involved when I choose to do something that’s out of my comfort zone. However, the reward is usually worth more than the risk.
I’ve gotten to do some really cool things like travel the world and hang out with astronauts at the “Space Oscars”, like it’s just a normal thing to do—all because I simply say “yes” to opportunities.
Don’t get me wrong, there have been a few times where things didn’t go as smoothly as one could hope. But, after the moments of sheer panic, I figure there’s probably some sort of silver lining or lesson learned. At the very least, a funny story will come out of it in the end. Adventures aren’t always fun and exhilarating, but sometimes the best and most inspiring parts of the story are the challenges we face before we get to the good part.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I grew up in a very large family that’s musically and artistically talented. So, I suppose the drive to create something unique is just in my blood. I’ve always enjoyed organizing and hosting themed events especially for family and friends. Creating those special moments people will always remember is a great passion of mine. Although the adventures were initially inspired by my girl time with my daughter, sisters and friends to build Everyday Girl Adventures, not all of the events are just for girls.
Everyday Adventures are inclusive to all, for the opportunity to find joy and create lasting memories—either by attending a fun event and supporting local small business or by being inspired to create your own adventures every day. I’ve recently added a 360 slow motion photo booth to share the magic of your adventures. It’s also available for private bookings.

I’m very passionate about supporting small businesses. For most of our adventures we partner with local businesses and entrepreneurs to organize a wide range of events throughout the month so that there’s something for everyone. I also started a networking group called MissFit Networking as an avenue to bring local women entrepreneurs together to build genuine connections and support each other no matter where we are on our business journeys.

We also love doing regular shoutouts on our social media if you are looking for tried and trusted recommendations for adventures with our favorite local legends.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I have A LOT of family and friends. So, an Everyday Adventure itinerary is going to look different every time. One thing that Colorado Springs is great about is that there is something for everyone. It is usual for there to be some type of festival or community event happening. Typically, I will check local events and start there. Everyone’s idea of adventure is different. I try to take personal preferences and limitations into consideration, so any activity would be tailored to the individual or group.
Hiking in the plethora of beautiful trails and taking in the stunning wild scenery throughout the Pikes Peak region is an obvious choice for many who enjoy outdoor adventures. My favorites for first time visitors are Red Rock Open Space and Pulpit Rock. But there are so many gorgeous and unique options, such as the incline, for those that have the stamina for more challenging adventures. But not everyone can do a lot of walking or even wants to. So, another type of adventure outing might be mostly culinary experiences, like my favorite go-to coffee spot, Wayfinder, for a light breakfast. Then maybe a scenic drive downtown Colorado Springs for a patio lunch, enjoying the natural painting-like mountain-scape, and people watching at Dos Santos for some yummy street tacos. Lumen8 rooftop is a perfect choice to watch the sunset over a fine-dining dinner and then out to the gorgeous patio to view fireworks after a game night.
Other visitors might enjoy art and culture, so a stroll through Old Colorado City and Manitou, stopping into the local galleries and boutiques, with a lovely wine tasting in between at one of the quaint wineries makes for a lovely day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom—for instilling me with a sense of adventure and encouraging me through a “say yes” mentality to every opportunity that arises. Even seemingly mundane moments can become magical with the right attitude.

My daughter—for being willing to go along with all my silly ideas and inspiring Mother/Daughter Mondays.

My sister, Christina Korp—for inspiring me to “Aim Higher” everyday.
And my other sisters and my friends—for being the people in my life that not only support me in everything I do but inspire me to create memories through our everyday adventures.
