We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeannie Stith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeannie, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I had organized my whole house, but my clothes were still perpetually a problem. I bought clothes that I didn’t end up wearing, my clothes didn’t work very well together, and my strategy for shopping for clothes was just impulse buying. This led to overstuffed drawers and a cluttered closet. I decided I needed some criteria for what I brought into my closet, and then I discovered seasonal color analysis! This idea that there were colors that looked really great on me and ones that didn’t…well that was fascinating. Why wouldn’t I just wear my best colors all of the time? Once I discovered what those colors were, I shopped “color first”. My friends wanted it, so I helped them discover their colors, and then their friends wanted it, and so on. Color Guru was born!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Color Guru analyzes your hair, skin, and eye color to match you to your ideal color palette for clothing. Our service is 100% online and virtual. Was it easy to start? No. There were lots of challenges! As an entrepreneur starting my first business, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you have to ask for help. Whether that’s hiring a business coach, (shoutout to James Wedmore who was mine!) hiring contractors, being in a mastermind group, or connecting with a mentor, you need to learn from people who have done what you’re trying to do. Put your ego aside and listen to them. That being said, there are also times when you need to follow your intuition to build brand you want to build. You need to know when to take advice and know when to go your own way. And that’s where it is really important to be still and be able to listen to your intuition.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
