We had the good fortune of connecting with Jed Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jed, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Colorado has numerous species of sport fish throughout the state to pursue other than rainbow trout. Similar to the mass majority of sport fish found in Colorado, rainbow trout are not native/indigenous to this state and were widely introduced in the late 1880’s. Some of the other sought after sport fish found throughout most of the state are largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, walleye, brown trout, crappie, catfish, and numerous other hybrid, sunfish, and trout species. Majority of these fish can be found in just about every pond, lake, and reservoir along the front range, eastern plains, and even some West slope waters. Here at Northern Colorado Fishing Outfitters we offer guided fishing trips at several NoCo locations to fish for many of these sport fish species.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting Northern Colorado no trip is complete until one visits the many restaurants, brewery’s and shops of both downtown areas in Loveland and Fort Collins. Some of our favorite restaurants are Henry’s Pub & Betta Gumbo in Loveland. Some of the top of the list for a Ft. Collins visit would be at The Moot House, Silver Grill Cafe, Big City Burrito, & DC Oaks. For an afternoon or evening beer after a day of fishing there are many choices but our favorites are Grim Brothers Brewhouse, Maxline Brewing, and Horse & Dragon Brewing Co. During your stay in Northern Colorado there is no end to the numerous outdoor activities available for a tremendous visit. Horsetooth Reservoir & Boyd Lake both have clean, cool water to enjoy a day or two on the water fishing, boating, & hanging out on the shoreline. Both Loveland and Ft. Collins have amazing rivers that flow right through town and each river reaches their respective towns via extremely scenic river canyon. Loveland has the Big Thompson River, while Ft. Collins has the Cache La Poudre River. Both rivers have scenic walking paths and trails all around town and the canyons. Visiting Northern Colorado is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe my passion for the outdoors and fishing to a couple of people. First is my maternal grandmother. My grandma was very passionate about fishing and going fishing with my grandma on all our visits is definitely some of my most cherished memories as a child. We had many fantastic fishing trips to her favorite fishing spots in Colorado. Second, would be my father. My dad loved camping and fishing. We traveled all over Colorado growing up camping and fishing some of the most spectacular areas. Some of my favorites and areas I still fish and guide at are Boyd Lake at Boyd Lake State Park, Dowdy Lake in Red Feather Lakes, & the Delaney Buttes in Walden.
