We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen Kruse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always loved art, so naturally starting my own art business made sense. As I’ve done commissions over the years, I have realized there is something raw and real and beautiful about making a client’s vision come to life. I find purpose in seeing a client’s reaction to something I have spent hours carefully creating. I have always had a passion for creating and when I realized other people liked my creations, it seemed the most natural option to start a business where I create for clients and make their visions a reality. I do of course create all the time just because I can’t get enough, but commissioned pieces are my favorite to work on.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of my perseverance. Although I have been an artist since age 3, I stopped creating several times due to discouragement from teachers and difficult life situations. But something in me said keep going. Something in me had to create despite all circumstances. My art sets me apart because of my signature style as well as the fact that I never shy away from a challenge. I have my art up not only in homes but in businesses as well. All of the artwork at HWARO in Denver is done by me. Although I had never painted a Koi fish in my life, I painted 6 giant Koi fish for their commission. I also have pieces that private collectors have used for designs as well as paintings in personal collections. The only consistent theme in all of my creations is the passion I pour into every piece. I use mediums ranging from Sharpies to Acrylics and Oils. All of my art comes from my heart, from my passion for creating.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Denver: definitely HWARO for ayce sushi and Big Bill’s New York Pizza for authentic Italian. Also, Mango Mango desserts has incredible mango treats for the whole family! In Colorado Springs: driving through Garden of the Gods is a MUST! I highly recommend Sushi Row for a fun downtown experience with food and drinks. And of course get your rock climb on at Gripstone!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Dad is my biggest inspiration. He has always been my biggest supporter and encouragement. When I have doubted my pieces and thought my art was horrible, he always has something positive to say and a few words of encouragement to either help me see it in a different light or to try something new. He has made me believe in myself in spite of myself. He gave me wings to fly when I didn’t even feel like I could get off the ground. My art success is because of him.
