We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe Ramseyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had this huge passion for vintage motorcycles. I’m kind of anti-electronics, I love all things analogue, and the fact that if an old motorcycle is running at peak performance, it means you took the time to properly make it run. Theirs no electronic assistance, it’s all raw manual input. Things like that drove my passion to turn that into a career.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an independent motorcycle shop that focuses on vintage motorcycles, we are the ones to step up and work on bikes that no one else will. Dealerships won’t touch bikes older than a certain age, and we don’t want to see those motorcycles die out. They deserve to live a long life on the road. But because of how niche it is, it’s a tough space to move into while turning a profit. Having worked for dealerships and been in motorcycles my whole career, I knew the relative ins and outs, so to speak, but nothing can prepare you for the overhead and weeks where you spend money and don’t make any in return. It’s tough. You have to put your head down and churn out hours to see results.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was in town, he’d have arrived here by motorcycle. Without even thinking about it, we’re going to hit central city parkway and tear up some twisties, without a doubt. We’ll probably stop by Motorado and see what cool bikes are on sale at the time, and then hit blue pan pizza – my current favorite spot to eat.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shoutout to the crew at AK Cycles as well as Foo Dog Motorcycles for welcoming me into their space with open arms, and helping me get my feet on the ground. Real stand up people. It’s also worth mention that I couldn’t do any of this without my crew, Kristen and Jacob, and all the selfless work they do to make Vanity what it is.
