We had the good fortune of connecting with Judy & Hannah Orbanosky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Judy & Hannah, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My first career was education. I was consumed by the many hours that were required of a teacher, a principal, and a district administrator. Much of my life during my first career had no balance. I retired in 2022 and knew that I still needed to be productive. I wanted something that would give me the flexibility to be more present with my family. I started flipping furniture as a creative outlet that allowed me to decorate our home with unique pieces.

As my daughter, Hannah, was growing up she was very artistic and creative. She flourished with photography and drawing. As she grew into young adulthood, her creativity was squelched and all but forgotten. Her life took many unexpected turns and I could see her move further and further away from her creative talents.

When I turned an old “useless” bookcase into a beautiful entry table, her interest was piqued and from there we began this journey together. Over time we have learned that we can find joy in our new endeavor by connecting with each other. We are creative and enjoy spending time together, which was rare as Hannah was growing up. Two Flippin’ Good’ has created an opportunity for us that doesn’t feel so much like work, but rather like enjoying one another through the creative process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are a mother-daughter duo creating upscaled, repurposed furniture that will compliment any space in your home or office. We are unique in the furniture flipping world in that we are fastidious with our technical skills. Each piece of furniture is personal to us. We take pride in our technical skills and our attention to detail as well our artistic expression. Our furniture is painted and finished by hand. if there are flaws in our work we will take it back to the basics and start again. This doesn’t make the work easy or quick, but we create quality pieces that will endure.

Some of the challenges that we are overcoming are that people don’t appreciate the artistry. They want good quality pieces at big box store prices. Another challenge was that even though we are both very creative, this is a totally new skill-set for both of us. Neither of us had any woodworking or furniture painting experience. We spent a full year researching the tools and products, while learning various techniques before we felt we could produce the quality that is the hallmark of our business. We continue to learn and grow daily.

One of the biggest lessons for us is that even though each piece of furniture is personal to us, we do not take people’s reactions to our furniture personally.

I, Judy, want the world to know that as I spent nearly 40 years in my career as an educator, I worked many long hours and made my way up the education ladder. I retired as a district level administrator, but when I look back, I can choose to look at all the time that was spent on work rather than family or I can focus on the lessons I learned; tenacity, dedication, professionalism, and steadfastness. These qualities are the driving force behind the success of our business. The difference is that I now know that it is more important to take the time for others first and work will “work” itself out. The beauty of Two Flippin’ Good is that I can take those qualities that are a part of who I am and transfer them to the business, but now I have the wisdom to know that relationships are the true success. I get to deepen my relationships with my daughter, Hannah, and the rest of my family because I understand dedication, but not at the expense of relationships.

I, Hannah, want the world to know that as I grew up I saw my mom as a tenacious women who instilled a hard work ethic and perseverance in the woman who I have become today. My mom will forever be a leader who can show what its like to set a goal and take it ten times further than what was planned. I see Two Flippin’ Good as an opportunity that has flourished into a season of life where the foundation created by my mom is coming to life. I can now appreciate the time and effort it takes to learn a new skill and see the beauty that comes with the hard work. The quality time spent collaborating, creating and conversing over our business and daily life, has truly sparked a new level of our mother daughter relationship. In summary this business and relationship will be irreplaceable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we had a friend come to town we would, without hesitation, provide them with a nature excursion of our little piece of the Front Range of Colorado. We would start out in our very own back yard. It is our secret garden. Next we would take them to McIntosh Lake to take in the most breath taking view of Longs Peak and Mt Meeker. After a paddle board around the lake we would go to The Java Stop on 3rd and Main for coffee and it’s unique vibe. After getting pumped up on coffee we would head over to the Flatirons outside of Boulder and set out on one of the many hiking trails. Dinner will be at an authentic Mexican restaurant in Longmont, Las Palmeras. A perfect ending to the day will be spent at the Sunset Pavilion at Barefoot Lakes in Firestone. The views span from Pikes Peak to Southern Wyoming. The sunsets at the Pavilion are unequaled anywhere. Day two would start with a walk around “The Lakes’ and then we would head to Rocky Mountain National Park through Estes Park. A must see in the Park is Sprague Lake. Chances are good that we will catch a cow moose with her baby wading in the cold waters of the lake. The valley is filled with wild life, plants and animals alike. After spending the day in the Park, a tour of the Stanley Hotel is required. Dinner will be at Mama Rose’s Restaurant, best Italian ever!
The northern part of the Colorado Front Range has many hidden gems. No matter how long one has to spend there, there would never be enough time to see it all.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our first recognition definitely goes to my husband and Hannah’s dad, Rob Orbanosky. He is always on the look out for great furniture finds and is always thinking about how we can make our shop more efficient. Secondly, we want to recognize my brother and his wife, Louis and Denise Pilkington. They are both very successful business owners and they continually mentor and support us in the business aspect as well as give technical advise when it comes to the furniture. These people provide consistent encouragement and belief in our talents and vision.

Christina Muscari of Pretty Distressed and Katie Scott of Salvaged by K Scott have served to not only inspire us, but teach us techniques and some of the intricacies of furniture flipping. These two women mentor us through their Youtube and Instagram videos as we are creating our own unique brand on furniture restoration.
