We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Nicosia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, how do you define success?
I define success not just by financial achievement or business growth, but by the joy and fulfillment I feel when I do what I love. Success, for me, is balancing my passion for event styling with my role as a mother, even during difficult times, such as when my daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. I was able to show her resilience by continuing to pursue my dreams while supporting her through her journey. Success also means creating a positive impact on others—whether it’s through crafting unforgettable events or sharing my story to inspire hope. Ultimately, success is living a life aligned with your values, persevering through challenges, and bringing happiness to yourself and those around you.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey with Fiora Decor began long before I officially launched my business. From a young age, I found joy in organizing events and creating beautiful decorations. Whether it was planning a Mother’s Day party in my hometown or decorating for my church’s Christmas celebration, I always felt a deep passion for event styling.

However, the road to where I am today wasn’t always easy. After moving to the U.S. to pay off my student loans, I worked tirelessly, often juggling multiple jobs, from being a server to selling gelato. Despite these challenges, I never lost sight of my love for bringing joy to others through creative events. I knew I wanted to pursue my true passion—event planning and decoration. That’s how Fiora Decor was born in November 2023.

What sets Fiora Decor apart is the heart and resilience behind every event. In April 2024, my daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, and that moment shifted my entire world. Yet, even in the midst of such a difficult time, I found solace in my work. I continued to build my business, often working on my website and content creation from the hospital. It wasn’t just about keeping Fiora Decor going; it was about showing my daughter what it means to persevere through life’s challenges.

Today, I’m most proud of how Fiora Decor has not only grown as a business but has also served as a symbol of strength and creativity for my family and clients. The joy I feel when designing a special event or creating balloon and floral arrangements is something I cherish deeply. Fiora Decor is not just a business—it’s a reflection of my values, my resilience, and the love I have for making life’s moments memorable.

What I want the world to know about Fiora Decor is that every event we design is crafted with care, creativity, and a story behind it. We’re not just in the business of creating beautiful spaces—we’re in the business of creating joy and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I would make sure they experience the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and great food. We’d start off by spending two days in Pagosa Springs, enjoying the hot springs and going rafting—there’s nothing like the thrill of being out on the water and then soaking in those healing springs afterward. Once we’re back in the city, I’d take them for dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant, Virgilio’s. Their food is amazing, and it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a day of adventure.

For something truly unique, I’d treat them to a Candlelight Night concert—there’s something so magical about listening to beautiful music by candlelight. Next, we’d head out to Grandby for some camping. I’d love to sit by the river while my husband fishes, and I’d take them on a hike to really take in the beautiful outdoors. On another day, we’d spend time by the lake, paddle boarding, enjoying nature, and of course, grabbing some delicious gelato afterward to top off the day.

That combination of outdoor fun, good food, and relaxing moments would really make the trip special

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
