We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Lynch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, what do you attribute your success to?
First and foremost being passionate is the key. I’m 4 years in and still feel just as excited about the clothes I carry and the community that follows Kate + Grace. But the true passion stems from my #bringjoy mission. I have a partnership with Marisol Services and donate brand new clothes to women in need. Some of these women are new moms, most are struggling with homelessness and others are trying to get on their feet again. Providing new clothes for these women dignify them and care for them in moments of struggle. Having a mission as the backbone of my boutique is not only rewarding but has transformed my heart. It drives my passion to give back while also provides beautiful clothes to all the women of K+G.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I would say my #bringjoy mission sets me apart from other online boutique (which I touched on in a previous question) but also relatability. I like that the women of K+G see the reality of my business in a busy mom world. I find it important that things don’t look perfect, that my try-ons get interrupted, that I squeeze work in amongst the many other demands of my children. I want other women to see me and relate, feel empowered and connect to the importance of self-care and femininity. I certainly don’t have it all together. I have 4 boys under the age of 8 and life is crazy. I’ve learned that people relate to that more than the “perfect business”. I love to encourage women to take the time to wear clothes that reflect their inner beauty and show them ways to do this simply in their busy lives.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Obviously the mountains would be our first stop. Whether it’s summer or winter the mountains are full of adventure. We would definitely start our day with skiing in Breckenridge, grab a drink on the mountain and end for dinner in town at Rootstalk. To continue the adventures we would hike in Boulder and walk around Pearl Street. Then end in downtown dinner popping into fun restaurants and sites. There are endless things to do in CO!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband! After making the decision to be a stay-at-home mom for my 4 boys I found myself struggling with my “new mom” identity since I was no longer working as a teacher. Jordan encouraged me to find something that would bring me joy while still being home with my boys. He helped me to go for it and dive right in! It was exactly what I needed in my life. I mean who doesn’t want to shop for a living?! I still get excited to this day when the products that I’ve spent hours searching for arrives at my doorstep. I love to show the K+G women the curated fashion and different ways of styling the clothes through social media. I love the challenge of finding time amongst our busy schedule to fill orders with handwritten notes or release new product on Mondays. But most importantly I love the feeling of providing brand new clothes to women in need. Thank you to my husband for pushing me to go for it and help create time for me to succeed in my business.
