We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Champlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I am pursuing an artistic career because art is one of my greatest passions and has been ever since I was a child. When I am creating art, anything is possible. The pencil and paintbrush can invent anything on the paper, granting the artist this beautiful yet precious gift. What worlds can be designed? Which messages can be magnified? Art is a way to highlight and show beauty in the world, and doing so with my creative career has been an exciting journey.
In growing my art business, I have also been able to network with so many amazing people! To share my paintings with others brings me excitement as it means a piece of my life is connecting with someone else’s. Whether I am painting a faith-based piece, or a colorful fashion watercolor, it brings me such joy when viewers are granted a positive affirmation through my work. As an artist, it is quite fulfilling when one can touch the lives of others in a wonderful way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to suggest an amazing week in the Colorado Springs area, I would say to start in the town just west in Manitou Springs. Get there at 6am, and hike the Manitou Incline to see breathtaking views of the sunrise above the Springs. Then, we would get breakfast downtown at the Urban Egg. From there, we could go kayaking at Rampart Reservoir and bring a packed lunch. On the way back, we could stop for wine tasting at the Wines of Colorado or enjoy a drink back in Colorado Springs at my favorite cocktail bar called Stir. Another place filled with nostalgia is the Penny Arcade in Manitou Springs, where you can feel like a kid all over again and play skee ball and horse racing. Some people prefer to check out the Garden of the Gods- which is amazing in its grand red rocks, however I also love hiking seven bridges with the trail winding over and over an idyllic mountain stream. Other amazing places for drinks include the eclectic Shugas, the romantic and gothic Cork and Cask, and the darkly whimsical Rabbit Hole. All of these cocktail bars are found downtown Colorado Springs. If you are up for a fun night of dancing, I would recommend going on a Friday night for live music at the Whiskey Baron in the more central part of the Springs.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Tanya Swegler has been such a support and art mentor over the past few years. She has encouraged me and challenged me to be the best artist I can be, all while helping me foster an even deeper love of the arts.
