We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Kimberlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
When I think about what I want my legacy to be, a lot of things come to mind but there is one that wins over them all. I want people to remember that I was a loving wife and mother but above all, I want people to remember that I didn’t forget about myself. That not only did I strive to be the best mom and wife I could be but I also pursued my passions and goals. I want to leave a legacy that inspires moms to take care of themselves and not forget that they matter too. I started my podcast The Mamas Moving Mountains Podcast for that reason exactly. I started it because it was something I was passionate about and it was something that I could call my own. It’s so important that we continue to take care of ourselves when we become moms and do things that make us happy. Being a mom is the greatest gift I’ve ever been blessed with so I’m not saying being a mom isn’t enough. I’m just trying to say that whether it’s starting a hobby, starting a new career, going back to work, picking up a new craft, or doing anything that makes you feel like you’re taking care of yourself..it’s worth it and you deserve it!
You know the saying, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” Well, I want my legacy to be that I always poured from a full cup. I want my girls and all of the other young girls of this world to know that you can still have an identity outside of your titles. That what they want from life and the goals they have can still be fulfilled no matter what stage of life they’re in. We were all created to leave our mark on this world in some way or another, I want my mark to be that I lived a full life with no regrets and I gave love freely to those around me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the Creator/Host of The Mamas Moving Mountains Podcast and I am a family/lifestyle content creator. I’m most proud of how many people the podcast has reached in just a year’s time. It was never about how much money it made but all about how many moms I was able to connect with and help them to know they’re not alone. I’m proud of the feedback I’ve received from it and that people genuinely feel like they’re talking to a friend when they’re listening. I also brought on my best friend Valentina as a co-host and it’s been so rewarding connecting with her as well. So far I haven’t hit too many challenges with the podcast but I know they will come in the future and all I can say is when the challenges arise, I will remember why I started the podcast. I started it to empower, inspire, and connect with moms. As long as I’m staying true to that and being authentically myself, the challenges will always work themselves out!
As far as being a content creator, it took me a long time to get to where I am today. It took a lot of dedication, learning photography, and consistency. I’m creating the content I love, working with brands that I’ve dreamed of working with and sharing my life. The challenges of being a content creator can really weigh on a person. The challenges you face from content creating usually come in the form of mean comments, judgment, or comparison. For me, the main challenge I face is comparison. It’s easy to see what other people are doing and think you’re not doing enough, especially when you’re a mom. I overcome that by remembering I am doing an amazing job. That every day I strive to not only be a good person but a good mother and that’s what matters. I take breaks from social media when I need to and come back when I feel mentally refreshed.
The lessons I’ve learned from both the podcast and the content creating is that being true to yourself is crucial to your happiness. If you try to change into the person you think other people want you to be then you’ll never find joy in what you do. I’ve learned that the right people will be put in my path just by being myself. I also learned that any good thing takes time, dedication, and hard work. Pouring your heart and soul into the things you love really pays off.
I want the world to know that my brand stands for the empowerment of women and moms everywhere. That when you come to my page or listen to my podcast, you will fear no judgment. You are loved just as you are and supported. I want people to know that what I put out is genuine and always comes from a place of love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place I would take a friend that was visiting would have to be Pikes Peak. Take a ride all the way up to the top! The views are beautiful and it’s an unforgettable experience! Then head to Old Colorado City to check out all of the local shops and more! After that head out to eat at Ivywild School, the best marketplace! They have 4 different kitchens with different foods, 4 different bars with all of the cocktails & beers you could ask for, and shopping. For the rest of the trip, we’d have to check out the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Broadmoor Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods, Ghost Town Museum, Red Rock Canyon Open Space, and the Space Foundation Museum. We also can’t forget about food for the rest of the trip! We’d have to stop by Urban Egg for some brunch, Springs Orleans for some good cajun food, Colorado Mountain Brewery for a good burger and some good local beer, and the Rabbit Hole to get all dressed up for a fancy dinner with an elegant ambiance!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout my grandmother Kandye. She plays a huge role in the woman I am today. She loved hard, worked hard, and took care of her family. She showed me that you can be a successful, independent woman while still having a family. She also showed me what unconditional love is and that putting yourself first doesn’t mean putting others last. Putting yourself first and taking care of your mental health really means that the ones you love are your top priority. I love hard, strive to be better every day, and care for those around me unconditionally because of her.
I would also love to shoutout my husband Daniel. He is one of the main reasons I went through with starting my podcast. He always reminds me to take care of myself and find things that I love. He reminds me every day that I’m still Kelsey and not just a mom. He pushes me to be my best and reminds me not to give up on my passions/goals. That’s what I’ve always wanted in a partner and I’m so beyond blessed to be his wife. He has played a role in the woman I am today as well.
