We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendall Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendall, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started Flex-infinity I was frustrated by Covid, but more importantly angry about the murder of Breonna Taylor. Her and so many others. I found myself looking for a place to put my money. Putting my money where my mouth right? I don’t want to just donate to organizations. I wanted to know more about all the black women owned businesses. Sadly, I found it really difficult to find these companies. I had to use hashtags on Instagram, look at the about me page on each site. So I was angry and frustrated but then I decided I could be part of the solution. While thinking about Breonna Taylor I really started thinking about how trans black womxn were treated too. It felt wrong not to include the LGBTQIA community and hopefully other women that have different ideas of spirituality and religions.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is one simple thing, there’s no other me in the world, that’s what set us all apart. I’m a city girl, that loves the rain playing in puddles and going hiking. Sometimes I’m a Mason jars but also long stem wine glasses. I play video games but I love to read a good book. All in all I’m exactly who I’m supposed to be. These different interests allows me to connect with people in a multitude of ways. That may not exist if I only had one interest or didn’t allow myself to “dabble” in all the things I enjoy.
I’m most proud about never quitting. It’s not always easy, but the key is to get back up when you get knocked down as cliché as that sounds
I’ve worked on being authentic to myself, my goals and what I truly want in life. Often times admitting to ourselves what we want is the hardest part. I am constantly being mindful not hurt any others while on my path to getting to my greatness.
It’s not always easy, it’s often not but I found that if I’m honest with myself it’s easier to be honest with the world. I remember I’m not perfect. since I’m constantly in competition with myself, if I’m better than I was yesterday I win! I also remind myself that each of my flaws still contribute to the masterpiece I am.
One of my favorite lessons is to remember that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. If you are doing what feels right to you. It’s important to know yourself because they’re multiple paths to the same place. If you know who you are it’s easier to find your path to your destination
I want people to remember that just as I cant be places in a box, neither is flex infinity that’s exactly why it’s a great brand to work with, we’re constantly connecting people that may not have otherwise been in the same room.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in the city currently is my house JK.
Every morning we’d start the day with mimosas at Delectable Egg the service there is impeccable and being a black woman service is often lacking in the Denver area. Not to mention the food it’s amazing!
Nails done at a place that’s super Instagramable Purluxe Beauty bar. They do a spectacular job but more importantly during pedicures you get to people watch. Then stop into Union Hall for any new insulation. Theres always something cool new and interesting. Rock climbing at movement, its also a great place to meet a new friend. If there’s any time left over I’d show off Meow Wolf closing the day with dinner at STK. Because we do it for the gram!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wanna shout out Union Hall their executive director Emma Perez Steuer has been not only helpful and encouraging but supported Flex- infinity in our most recent event on February 10 Sip and See! Somm Says, CEO Hunter was not only a partner in the Sip&See event but also a large supporter of black women and black women on businesses!
