Meet Kyla Lucero | Certified Clinical Esthetician & Acne Specialist
We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyla Lucero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always struggled with acne prone skin myself, which caused me to feel extremely self-conscious. So I decided to go to school to become an esthetician and learn everything possible about skin. Once I graduated, I dove headfirst into advanced certifications, specializing in acne treatment. It was during this time that I realized there were very few acne focused facial clinics in Colorado. Not only that, but most of the spas I saw that did offer acne treatments were very expensive. But as someone who struggled with severe breakouts my entire life, I know how much of an effect it has on one’s confidence and mental health, and I do not believe that treatment for it should be a luxury. In fact, I believe that acne treatment should be accessible to everyone, no matter the income. So I talked to my husband about opening our own facial clinic to address those issues. We wanted to provide high quality skincare services, specializing in acne treatment, at an affordable rate. And that’s what we did!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Absolutely! I think the best way of summing up our business is through our vision statement: “To help every client feel beautiful and confident in their own skin.” I am so proud of the results we continue to achieve for our clients, and I never get tired of hearing their testimonials. For example, one client just texted me that for over years, she refused to go out of the house without a full face of makeup on. However, after completing our acne program, she now doesn’t wear any foundation at all! Another common story from our clients is that they are told the only thing that will clear their skin is Accutane. But instead of going that route with its many awful side effects, they are able to get their acne under control holistically with us! It is so rewarding!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooh, this is a great question! As a Colorado native, of course I am going to take them to some of my favorite mountain towns. I love Golden, Morrison, Estes, and Georgetown. They are so adorable and the best spots to get away for little day trips. Plus, I will always argue that ice cream tastes 10 times better from a mountain town ice cream shop than anywhere else. Then I would take them down Windsor’s cute main street, and after getting a drink from Peculiar (one of my favorite locally owned breweries), I would take them on a hike at Horsetooth!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A lot of people ask how my husband and I grew Serenity at such a fast rate. To be honest, I give all the credit to The Lord. He has blessed our business substantially, and I am beyond thankful. Also, our families have gone above and beyond with supporting us. I specifically want to shoutout my parents, my mother-in-law, my sister, my husband’s grandparents, and my husband’s aunt and uncle. I am so grateful for all the love and support they have given us. Serenity Acne & Aesthetics would not be anywhere near where it is now without them. And last, I want to thank our amazing employee, Monica. She is so knowledgeable and passionate, and the perfect addition to our team.
