We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Johnston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The truest reason for starting my production company is because making videos is fun! Starting my own business gave me the autonomy to choose interesting brands, keep learning new creative tools, and avoid being boxed into a role that separated creativity from strategy. I wanted to build something sustainable where the work stayed enjoyable while creating real value, not just output. And I could hire and train people I liked being around.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The business is built around storytelling first, not just production. We work with brands, nonprofits, and institutions that have something meaningful to say, and we focus on clarifying the story and purpose before ever picking up a camera. What sets us apart is the combination of creative direction, strategy, and execution. We are not just making videos, we are helping clients understand why the work matters and how it will be used. I am most proud of the trust we have built and the long-term relationships that have grown out of single projects into ongoing partnerships. Getting here was not easy. The early years involved uncertainty, wearing every hat, and learning through trial and error, especially around pricing, scope, boundaries, and sustainability. Those challenges were overcome by being willing to adjust, having honest conversations, and building systems that supported growth instead of burnout. The biggest lessons have been that clarity beats complexity and that relationships matter more than tactics. What I want people to know about the brand is that it is thoughtful, human, and intentional, built on a genuine love for the work and a desire to create something that is both creatively fulfilling and genuinely useful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Colorado because there’s so much to do here. It’ll be hard to narrow down the list, but I’d go hiking at Lair o the Bear, go to a concert at Red Rocks, ride bikes along the highland canal to grab a beer at the Denver Beer Co near DU. We would eat a lot. I think my favorite spot is Tacos Tequila Whiskey in the Highlands. I’d make them order the pollo agave taco. The best Poke is Poke House downtown. The best sushi is Hapa (hot take, not Sushi Den). I love Quiero Areapas at Avanti. For drinks I’d go to Bear Creek Distillery and Laws. The best lunch spot is Brider. The best coffee is Sweet Bloom. I’d probably grab a cup from Devil’s Food Bakery and walk around Wash Park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to my wife, who encouraged me to take the risk of starting my business, using our personal savings to bootstrap my career and believing in me each step along the way.
