We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren & Cristina Korba-Deere and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren & Cristina, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would say that the most important factor behind our success was our decision to keep our business small and intimate. We have never been the best sales or marketing gurus but what we have done is create a community. We cultivated a following of like minded individuals who are passionate about the same things we are. We always wanted our business to be something that we didn’t have to force or have to push on people so we set the intention of creating delicious coffee while supporting women and bringing out important words like Empathy, Compassion, Patience, Kindness and Love which I think we could all use a little dose of these days. We value our work life balance and we value our customers like family. This is very important to us.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We source and roast women cooperative coffee in support of a more nurturing world. We share our connection to our coffee with you through the story of our beans while developing flavors that best represent the nature of their origin through our roasting process. Being a women owned business and an alternative family with a child, we respect the women farmers we work with. They have overcome so much adversity in their own lives to cultivate their businesses and amazing coffee crops. They broke free from the gender norms and oppression typically seen around the coffee growing world and through their courage, endurance and integrity built strong communities and opportunity. We feel honored to be connected to them. We are excited to bring our customers these thoughtfully sourced and roasted beans as we reflect our own values and commitments through our coffees.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Red Rocks Amphitheater is always our first recommendation for hiking and enjoying live music. Hands down the best attraction in the area. Parents with young kids coming to town should check out the Butterfly Pavilion, the Aquarium, and the Wild Animal Sanctuary. Some of our current food recommendations in our local town of Longmont would be: Rosario’s, Sushi Leo, Blue Corn Tacos, and Scrumptious for a great scoop of ice cream. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our parents have been a tremendous support for us. From the very beginning when we first set foot at the Boulder Farmers Market and things were awkward and overwhelming, they encouraged us to stay confident and keep going. As we grew, they were always there to remind us that we had something important to share through our small coffee business. Thank you for never letting us give up, we love you guys!
