We had the good fortune of connecting with Leonor Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leonor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own Ballet Folklorico de Barajas to give back to the community. It the developed into a non-profit organization as has grown from there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I first started dancing when I was in high school at Coronado High School in Colorado Springs. That is where I got my love for dancing folklorico. It was in the early 90’s that I started my own dance group. I had it for approximately nine years and then family happened. However, it wasn’t until my grandchildren were born that I realized the importance of traditions, culture and remembering when we came from that I decided to restart the group. So, this second time around is for my grandchildren.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of the areas that I like to take friends and family are:

Garden of the Gods
Manitou Springs
Cripple Creek
Arcerios Mexican Restaurant

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When it comes to my dance group, I would like to thank my family for there continuous support. Without them this would not be possible. My daughter Latisha Quintana has been a pillar of support for me and the Ballet Folklorico de Barajas organization.
