We had the good fortune of connecting with Mackenzie Kubistek and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mackenzie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted create a sanctuary for clients to come escape daily life. I’ve come to find it is my souls purpose to help people feel like the best version of themselves. I wanted to hand pick everything, from inventory, plants and aesthetics that elevate my guests experience.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One style doesn’t fit all. I’ve come to find the key to client satisfaction is to keep lines of communication clear, listen, interpret requests, to advice and guide when necessary. This industry is so much more than hair, it’s about the experience and the relationship between my clients and myself. Years of trust and love have grown my brand, LUMI into what it is today. Nothing brings me more joy than clients leaving my salon with full hearts and beautiful hair.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Date nights with my boyfriend, Bo in Denver are some of my favorite times. We live in Wheat Ridge, so LoHi is a go to for us! Mizo Izakaya is a favorite of ours, we’re slightly obsessed with that food culture. They have killer cocktails as well as a huge Whiskey menu! We love Red Rocks, weather it be a Dubstep show with our friends, or a day trip to explore all the hiking trails. I’m a native and would still consider that one of the most beautiful places in Colorado.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many amazing people who encouraged and helped me start my business! I want to dedicate this shout out to Tonya Chaney, for lighting a fire under me. To my family members and friends for pushing me. And my boyfriend, Bo for all his business wisdom and support though my toughest days! This only scrapes the tip of the iceberg! LUMI would not of happened if it weren’t for all of the loving humans I have surrounding me.
