We had the good fortune of connecting with Michaela Molvie & Meaka Ravithis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michaela Molvie & Meaka Ravithis, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We noticed a trend in companies planting trees to combat deforestation, but saw an equally important and under-addressed need for the removal of beetle-kill and deadfall in forests across the mountain West. From this idea came a vision: Become a leader in eco-friendly apparel and shift the conversation around forest health from planting to removal.
What should our readers know about your business?
Isoterics Apparel is and eco-driven clothing brand, dedicated to creating awareness around the issues of beetle-kill effected forests, the importance of fire mitigation and conservation.
We want the world to know that we are a thoughtful brand through and through. From the products we create, to the companies that we work with, to the mission we stand for. We are creating a community of advocates through sustainable fashion and education around the neglected dead-fall issues we face in the Rocky Mountain West.
Creating a a business has been one of the hardest and most rewarding accomplishments of our lives. We both work full-time jobs to make this company everything it deserves to be. You have to set disciplines and be willing to work even when you’re exhausted. The biggest lessons we’ve learned is to celebrate and get excited about every small success. Doing this conditions you mentally to look for silver linings and keep the positive energy high. Of course, you have to keep your major goals at the center of everything, but try not to get overwhelmed when thinking about them. Instead, focus on small steps you can take every day to achieve them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As we are mountain people and Isoterics originated in Winter Park Colorado, we’d have to recommended this very special place. First enjoy the ride out there, as you make your way through Berthoud pass be sure to stop for photos at the top. We recommend filling up on breakfast first, if your feeling like a large plate Sharkey’s is the best spot. If you’re looking for to-go and unique we recommend Rollin Street Bakery, they make Czech Chimney cakes, check it out! Then walk off the carbs through the Fraser River Trail. You also have to say hello to some of the kindest and amazing people we know. Get your groceries at Safeway and say hi to David at the self check out, stop by Hernando’s to meet the legendary Cowboy, if you like Van Halen you will have a lot in common. Stop by the pub and have Jeff make you some wings and enjoy some live music while it lasts at ULLRS Tavern. Jarrod makes one delicious green tea shot.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It takes a village to raise a business, we have an amazing tribe of unique, creative and supportive individuals who’ve made our dreams possible. Lee Molvie – loving husband and Director of Operations for BUHV Designs, MTN Creative – who we enlisted to help create our iconic logos and illustrations, our photographer buds – Think to Make and Jay Stewart Photography, and lastly THawk Studio for our hand crafted pieces.
