We had the good fortune of connecting with Maximilian Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maximilian, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My overarching purpose in life is to build technology that accelerates the rise of sustainable solutions, making them not only the environmentally conscious choice but also the most affordable and widely adopted across society. I aim to foster a world where sustainable technologies dominate because they make the most economic sense, driving large-scale adoption.

I want to leave behind a legacy of continuous innovation and positive impact, shaping a better, more sustainable society for future generations. Personally, I aspire to never stop growing, always learning, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Professionally, I’m particularly focused on transforming the agriculture industry, especially in the areas of controlled environment agriculture and vertical farms, which hold immense potential for sustainable food production but face profitability challenges. I want to help unlock their success, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable world. I believe the greater good and innovation is not just valuable for its own sake but is also the best long-term business strategy.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Rooted Robotics, we’re focused on lowering the barriers to entry for farmers in the controlled environment agriculture (CEA) industry by developing affordable and scalable automation solutions. What sets us apart is our focus on small to medium-sized farms, providing tailored, cost-effective systems that offer a fast ROI and are easy for farmers to fix themselves. We’re proud of our innovative products, like our microgreen seeder, tray washer, and leafy greens harvesters, designed to improve efficiency while keeping costs down.

Our journey hasn’t been easy. We initially started our journey by designing, building and operating our own vertical farm where we faced a multitude of challenges and learned the biggest pain points of indoor farming first hand. Since we pivoted to building machines for other farmers that experience has proved invaluable. We overcame many challenges along the way and by keeping in close contact with farmers and their feedback we’re able to continuously refine our products to get better and better. One key lesson we’ve learned is the importance of staying agile and responsive to the needs of farmers and the unique ways they operate.

What we want the world to know is that automation isn’t just for big corporations—small farms deserve the same advantages. Our mission is to empower all farmers with the tools they need to thrive in competitive and challenging markets.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I’d show them a mix of Colorado’s natural beauty and local culture. We’d eat at Somebody People in Denver, try Wellness Sushi, and visit Leaf in Boulder for more delicious food. Outdoor adventures would include hiking in the canyons near Lyons, tubing down Boulder Creek and rock climbing, either in Boulder Canyon or at The Spot. We’d also take a stroll down Pearl Street to enjoy the shops and street performers. Next, we’d explore the Denver Art Museum, the vibrant RiNo Art District, and take in the lush landscapes of the Denver Botanic Gardens. Lastly, we’d visit Red Rocks Amphitheatre for a scenic hike or, if possible, catch a live concert. This would give them a great taste of Colorado!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the incredible local agtech community we’ve been building here in Colorado. This group has been key in advancing innovation and sustainable solutions in agriculture, and I’m proud to collaborate with such dedicated and visionary individuals.

A special mention goes to Rick Langille from Harvest Today, Whit Allen of SpectraGrow, Brian Pedersen formerly of Plenty, Jake Holly and Jordan Lambert of Colorado State University’s SPUR Campus, Shane Schoolman and Michael Heim of MyCOLove Farms, Jacob Marlega of Jacob’s Mushrooms, and Justin Bzdek of Symbios Technologies. Your innovation, support, and dedication have played a critical role in our journey. There are so many more who also deserve recognition, and I’m excited about the future we’re building together
