We had the good fortune of connecting with Mirna A and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mirna, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from the middle east. My upbringing influenced my drumming where I think of rhythm differently incorporating the elements of middle eastern music in my playing and in how I teach and learn.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am mainly focused on metal drumming. I feel excited to gain my skills in this

I am mainly focused on metal drumming. I feel excited to gain my skills in this genre and to show the skills that I already have and worked on.

I am also a scientist, I learned how to learn things quickly, how to manage my time, how to organize my thoughts and be efficient. I think that helped me a lot.

also my eastern music exposure where I grew up combined with my western music education later in live gave me a unique advantage that allows me to combine both elements of both cultures.

One of the things that helped in my music journey is understanding that this is a business too not just pure art. Also understanding that this business has changed and it isn’t like in the 80s or 90s. Things are done differently now and we have to follow what works best to show case our talent.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My teachers are who deserves the credit for my success. The people that taught me not only technique but also things I didn’t know about the industry and them just being who they are inspires me everyday. My mentors that influenced me and supported my journey the most are Marco Minnemann, Derek Roddy, Eugene Ryabchenko, Dom Famularo, Billy Amendola, Matt Byrne, Paul Mathew Quin, Sam Landa, and Mindy Abovitz.
