We had the good fortune of connecting with Mishila Trujillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mishila, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I guess I have always wanted to pursue a creative career. When I was younger I wanted to produce music just because it was and is such a big part of my life. I never really pursued that. Growing up I thought you couldn’t make money that way or it was going to be very hard at the very least. So I opted for a career in heath care. I became a Nursing Assistant right after high school and was one for 10 years. I then became a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist but only worked as an Ophthalmic Technician for a few years. Although I loved working in health care it became tiresome for me and I hurt my back lifting for so long. What got me started in photography is my bestfriend from high school passed away when we were 20. When she passed I realized that even though we were together a lot we didn’t have many pictures together. I was seeing all the photos other people were posting on social media and it really hurt me. I never wanted to feel that way again. My mom bought me a point and shoot camera one year for Christmas and that is when it all really began.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a photographer it is sort of difficult to stand out. There is so many fantastic photographers with different styles and skill levels unique in their own way. I don’t believe my photography itself that makes me stand out but the way I serve my clients. I try my best to give them an amazing experience right from the beginning. I’m working everyday to learn ways to better serve my clients because, to me, its not just about the photograph itself but the experience you have while shooting that photo. Having those memories is what makes the photograph special. I’m most excited for the possibility of travel in the future. I would love to be able to travel the world to capture the important moments. I believe i’ve made it this far for this reason and remembering why i started photography in the first place is what helps me overcome challenges. I try not to put too much pressure on myself to be further i feel like success will come with time and consistency.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would most likely take a friend somewhere out side the city like Bishops castle in San Isabel.. There is also the natural waterslides there I would definitely take them to. As far as eating I would take them too my favorite BBQ place, GG’s BBQ.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout every client or supporter I’ve had thus far. I couldn’t be anywhere without them especially in the beginning they kept me going.
