We had the good fortune of connecting with Missy Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Missy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur. After having kids, finding a flexible job was difficult. I tried many different “work from home” options out there, but never found anything that fit me. I decided to go back to college and earn my BA degree in Business – Entrepreneurship. Half way through college, I started my own gourmet dessert catering business in Ohio that was successful for 3 years. Then, 2020 happened and I had to shut it down. Realizing that my favorite parts of owning that business was the creative and marketing aspects, I decided to pursue marketing. I worked for a couple organizations to gain experience.

My passion is helping small businesses succeed. The biggest way I was successful in my catering business was through creative marketing. After moving to Wyoming, I decided to start my own marketing agency to help the local businesses here and virtually. Since I started over a year ago, I have helped many small businesses gain more visibility and success in growing their business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a crafter, thrifter, and problem solver. I also grew up with a very limited budget. If there is a need or problem, I’d find an effective way to meet the need or solve the problem in a creative, budget friendly way.

I can sew, knit, bake, create art, design, figure out systems, organize businesses, and manage well.

I am a Jack of all trades, but could never find a “normal” job that would allow me to focus on what I’m good at. So, I’ve worked for myself and came up with creative ways to make money doing what I knew how to do. Alterations, crafty goods at markets, MLM businesses, etc.

I finally decided to start my own business and LOVED managing, creating, organizing, marketing, and just overall running my own show.

After I was forced to shut that first business down after 3 years, I learned that Marketing and helping other businesses was what I was born to do. All the creative skills help me understand small businesses, how the work, systems that work best, and how to market them.

Missy Burns Creative elevates the visibility for small businesses through creative marketing strategies and 1 on 1 support and encouragement. Small business owners shouldn’t have to be alone in growing their business.

Keep moving forward. Keep pursuing your skills and passions. You will find what works and your journey getting there will prepare you for it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the beautiful NW corner of Wyoming in a small town called Meeteetse. While YNP is always a must see, there are so many off-roading trails, views, camping, and sites to see and so much history to explore right here in Meeteetse. So, I would take them to all of those sites. Eat at the Elkhorn Bar & Grill, go trail riding at the Fiddleback Ranch, tour the Meeteetse Museum, and of course get information at the visitor center.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All credit goes to God for putting me on this journey. It also goes to my husband who has supported, encouraged and challenged me to keep moving forward!
