We had the good fortune of connecting with Muriel Wiesner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Muriel, how does your business help the community or world?
PreParenting centers the notion that if we heal ourselves and our homes first, the world will follow. The world is simply a collection of humans, and what those humans learn and are surrounded by in childhood (or not) has a HEAVY influence on the outcome of their lives. As a matter of fact, children who experience ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences) are MUCH more likely to experience myriad mental, emotional and physical health issues later on in ADULTHOOD if their trauma goes unhealed. Not to mention that what we learn as children fuels our lifelong belief systems, habits and the way we choose to live our lives.
Here at PreParenting, the aim is to PREVENT trauma in the first place through healing ones own childhood and past, raising ones consciousness and energy and becoming well-educated about child and human development so that they can parent from a truly wise, mature and healthy place. When PreParents and Parents are equipped with the tools to be conscious in their leadership of children, they face a much lower liklihood of inflicting trauma or unconsciously passing along intergenerational patterns of suffering.
In short, PreParenting has the power to completely transform the world in it’s entirety– imagine a world full of people who have only experienced unconditional love, understanding and acceptance since the very beginning of their lives. That world is a true possibility and it starts with how we lead our own families.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
PreParenting has been YEARS in the making. It is my third business endeavor following a birth doula business and a business centered around teaching consciousness workshops… needless to say, third time is truly a charm in this case. Everything I learned leading up to now has benefitted everything PreParenting has come to be. Nothing was “easy”, and nothing happens overnight. That whole “ten year overnight success” thing is true. The amount of energy and persistence it takes to keep going when “nothing” is happening is what creates the circumstances for business to BLOW up. I can honestly say, the pace has been perfect– even when I would’ve wanted things to go faster.
As I reflect on my journey, I wouldn’t have been able to handle more than I was given as any point in time. With each new milestone, I had to adjust in a major way to meet the responsibility that came with it. It is not “easy”, but it is every bit worth it to follow your hearts calling and see it come to fruition right before your eyes– nothing compares to that feeling.
PreParenting is truly revolutionary and pushes the boundaries of many norms, but all things that have the power to transform the world in a major way seem start out like that. Choosing to prepare oneself emotionally, mentally and spiritually for the realities of parenting is decades overdue, yet somehow right on time. The impact of raising children with reverence and wise leadership is immeasurable. A world full of truly peaceful people would be quite a shift, wouldn’t it?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ahhh this is such a tough question, there is so much greatness in Denver! I highly recommend downloading the app BBLK created by some Denver locals to steer you in the direction of amazing black-owned businesses. I LOVE TeaLee’s, a tea spot in the 5 points area as a super cozy, homely space to grab fresh tea and treats. While your in the area, head over to Welton Street Cafe for some homestyle comfort food. Make sure to check out the historical gems in the area while you are there. Maybe even take it for a picnic at one of Denver’s many amazing public parks. While you are in Colorado, you simply HAVE to explore nature as much as possible. The short drive into the crisp mountain air never gets old. There is so much to explore, so much peace to find!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My first shoutout goes to GOD, for real. Cliche’s are cliche for a reason. Before I discovered God (or whatever you choose to name the source that creates this world and everything in it) within myself, I was deeply suffering, very unwell emotionally and physically and there’s no way I would have gotten to where I am now. It is only through my own healing journey that I have gained the tools to truly help others on theirs. Second cliche– shoutout to my FAMILY! My blood family and the family that I have chosen in my friends and partner. While I was not free from my own trauma and family “drama” growing up, what I can say is that I have forgiven all of that and I am surrounded by a truly supportive, helpful and unconditionally loving tribe.
Then, there are teachers who have played a major role in my ability to create PreParenting, like Dr. Shefali Tsabary. She has authored three books on conscious parenting, has many classes and resources and has spearheaded the movement for years. As soon as I discovered her work, I felt, “WOW! Someone who REALLY understand what I have felt for YEARS!” It was like as soon as I discovered her work, everything that I was dreaming of seemed possible, and NECESSARY for me to bring into fruition.
