We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Kita and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I feel like I was born an entrepreneur. I remember when I was 7 years old, I’d pull seeds out of seed pods that fell out of the tree in our front yard, put them in little envelopes and try to sell them door to door. I even made a pie stand to sell the dandelion-decorated mud pies I made!

When I was 15, I freelanced as a commercial jingle singer. When I was 23, I started a housecleaning business. When I was 31, I started a business writing custom wedding ceremonies and officiating them. At 38, I started a boudoir photography business. A few years later, I was teaching other photographers how to be successful in business.

And when I started my love coaching business at age 48, it just evolved from the transformation I had created in my own love life. People started asking me to teach them how to do the same, and a business was born.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business encompasses my love coaching programs, and my growing book empire — all focused on helping women manifest healthy love, building healthy relationships, and living a more abundant, love-filled life.

I think what sets my work apart is that we go deep — no surface-level dating tactics, game playing, or trite, click-friendly-but-over-simplified soundbytes. As a certified clinical hypnotherapist, master NLP practitioner, and integrative somatic practitioner, we get to the root of people’s issues — which all stem from the subconscious mind.

At this moment in time, I’m most proud of my new book, which got to the top of the bestseller list in all three of our categories on Amazon, within just a few days of our official launch. But what makes me even happier is all the amazing love stories that have started — including many marriages — because of what we do!

Building a business is hard. Running a business is hard. It’s a lot of work, and “time off” is kind of not really a thing, especially when your business is not only your passion, but your calling.

My biggest challenges have been time management, work-life balance, and overcoming my resistance to hiring a team. I did it all myself for so long… but eventually I knew I was choking off my own growth by my stubborn insistence on being a solopreneur. So now I work with one full time employee and several part-time contractors, so I only have to wear 23 hats, not 37. 😉

As for the lessons I’ve learned — I actually shared a post on Facebook today, for my business owning friends, and I will share that here. (You certainly don’t have to use the whole thing in the article). These are the five things I WISH I had known, followed by the four things I either learned early in life or somehow instinctively knew that have helped me become successful:

1) In the beginning, when you’re doing EVERYTHING yourself, DOCUMENT what you’re doing and create solid SOPs. It’s so much harder to create this stuff AFTER you realize you need help. Ask me how I know. 🤪

2) Be ridiculously specific in your marketing. First, I promise you, you DO NOT want EVERY client. Second, when it comes to sales and marketing, clear beats clever, every time.

3) Strive for a balance between staying small and outgrowing the reason you went into business in the first place. (Don’t say so stubbornly independent — and frugal — that you cap your growth… but don’t over-hire and complicate your life and your business any more than is necessary to grow.) Related: Go buy the book “Profit First,” immediately.

4) Resist shiny object syndrome (so hard, I know! 🐿️). So many people jump from strategy to strategy, thinking the next one will be the magic that makes business easy and profitable… when the truth is that no strategy is without its downsides, and EVERY strategy only works if you go ALL IN on it and execute it well.

5) Sell people what they WANT, and then deliver what they NEED (along with what they want, IF what they want was not counter to what they really need.)

6) INVEST. In yourself, in your business, and in QUALITY EDUCATION/coaching. You cannot cobble together an empire on free YouTube advice. A *little bit* of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

7) Work on your mindset, your identity, and your nervous system’s capacity for receiving. All of the business, marketing, and sales classes in the world will not help if your identity, mindset, and nervous system are rooted in scarcity.

8) Show up authentically, NOT perfectly. Perfect isn’t real. People respond to real.

9) Stop thinking about it. Stop “getting ready.” Stop “getting organized.” Stop “waiting for the right time.” Stop waiting until you “feel like it.” Start DOING. If you do it “wrong,” you will learn so much more than you would from not doing it at all (AND more than you would from doing it “right.”)

One final note:

Be extremely careful of who you share your dreams and goals with, and who you ask for advice from. Do you know how many times I was told I couldn’t do something that I then turned around and did? Remember this rule — To be qualified to give you advice, someone must have ALL of the following going for them:

1) They’ve been where you are.
2) They’ve gotten where you want to go (not just in one area but in all areas of life — If someone is a multi-millionaire, but getting there cost them their marriage and health, DO NOT follow their path.)
3) They have your best interest at heart (a “rising tide lifts all boats” kind of attitude)
4) They have a positive, growth-oriented mindset.

What I want the world to know about my brand and my story:

I’m not perfect, and I’m not 100% evolved or 100% healed. I don’t get things right all the time… but I still have success and the most beautiful love in my life. And you don’t have to be perfect, either, to have the same. You just have to educate yourself on the how and then GO ALL IN. We’re not born knowing how to do any of this — we’re only born with instinct to SURVIVE, not necessarily thrive. So be intentional, be proactive, and be committed to your goals. (Yes, love is a goal, like any other — worthy of your conscious, intentional effort.) When we wait for fate, we get what we get. When we pursue our goals with conscious intention and aligned action, that’s when we get what we WANT.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This one, I can’t answer. While I do have clients in CO, my business is online. I’ve only ever been to CO to visit a friend, or driving through, or on layovers in Denver. However, I’m coming back in September for a 3-day visit to the Kosmos Stargazer resort, with my husband. If I love the place, I’m going to hold an upcoming women’s retreat there. (I host 4 retreats per year, in various places, and I’m really excited about the stargazing retreat concept.)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel like if I could only choose one person to acknowledge in helping me make this particular business a success, it would have to be my husband… because without him, I never would have started this business in the first place.

As for my success as a serial entrepreneur in general, I have to thank my parents — my Dad for the rebelliousness, entrepreneurial spirit, and charisma that was coded into my DNA, and my mom for the creativity genes and for constantly telling me that I could do ANYTHING I put my mind to, and nothing was impossible.

Finally, I want to give credit to the three earliest/most impactful personal development books I read early on that shaped my approach to business and life: Tony Robbins’ “Personal Power,” Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way,” and Denise Duffield-Thomas’ “Get Rich Lucky Bitch.”
