We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Heylmun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always known I wanted to be an entrepreneur and start my own business, and the itch started to grow stronger at the beginning of 2020. However, I wasn’t sure exactly what I was going to do and had been chatting with a friend who had started her own business as a business coach to help me figure out my direction. That friend (I think she knew what she was doing), had asked me if I would meet up with another one of her friends to give her some advice on her wedding photography business. She knew about my 5+ years of experience in the wedding industry. I was a sales rep for WeddingWire, where I worked with countless wedding professionals, consulting on their business needs, and she thought I might be able to provide some good advice. So, I met up with this mutual friend over a cocktail, and she started asking me business questions. Every single question she asked was something I could help her with with my eyes closed, and I absolutely loved helping her. I came away from that meeting thinking “I could help people with their wedding businesses as my business!” Fast forward a few weeks, and I was laid off from my corporate sales job. I was really sad for about a day, but it didn’t last because I knew this was my push towards entrepreneurship and towards a coaching business. I immediately hired my friend as a business coach, started beta testing, and the rest is history!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business in a nutshell: I help wedding professionals master sales and marketing, so they can attract and book out a full calendar of dream clients, and live abundant lives. I am wholeheartedly in love with my business! Every day I get to directly impact the lives and livelihoods of business owners. Yes, I help them attract more couples and make more money, but my favorite part of my job is watching each client blossom into a better version of themselves. I love watching people’s mindsets shift from being in scarcity, to believing anything is possible and they are worth it! I help them develop confidence, and a belief in themselves- and that is the most rewarding thing! Getting to where I am today was not an easy road. I didn’t realize when setting out on this journey how important social media would be to my business, and how much you need to put yourself out there. When this happens, you open yourself up to criticism and judgement, and you’re not going to please everyone. This was the most difficult mental block to overcome. However, that part has made me so much stronger, and now I get to pass on the wisdom I learned in that area to my clients, and help them develop their confidence and overcome their fears. It also takes a LOT of money to start a business, and your first year most likely won’t be super profitable. But, if you want to make it you have to push through those uncomfortable times. You also have to invest in yourself – a lot. That can be scary, especially because most times you must invest without that income being guaranteed to come back in. You simply have to believe in yourself so much that you KNOW you will see a return on the large investments you make. It is the only way to grow! Every single large investment I have made has paid off ten fold, and I simply gain more and more confidence each time. My favorite part of entrepreneurship is that you must constantly grow and improve as a person in order to grow your business. Its simply one big personal development journey, and I’m in love with it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever my friends come to visit, I like to take them up into the mountains. My favorite spot to drive is “lookout mountain road”, with a beautiful view of the whole city. You can also catch an awesome glimpse on North Table Mountain, after a heart-pounding incline to the top. After our scenic hike I would definitely take my friends to a brewery (or a few) and bring the pups! Some of my favorites are 10 Barrel, Denver Beer Co, and New Terrain. Later we would enjoy oysters, a spritz, and the clam pizza at Cart-Driver before bar hopping in RiNo. Some other sites to see would be Denver Botanic Gardens, a drive through the Rocky Mountain Arsenal to see the buffalo, and of course a show at Red Rocks. I also love the Indian Hot Springs private hot springs, and their mud room. Lastly, I would take them either paddle boarding on a lake or tubing down the river in Golden or Boulder. We call a pretty amazing place home, and there are no shortage of awesome spots to bring friends!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my amazing family who has supported me and believed in me. Many families would not be as supportive of their daughter going off on their own and taking a risky leap like I did to start a business. However, mine was all-in from the beginning and have always encouraged me, and told me I could make it happen. Since I was a kid, they have always told me I could do anything I set my mind to, and without that support I wouldn’t have held the belief that I could make my business happen. It is through their love and support that I am where I am today, and I am so grateful.
