We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikolas Close and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikolas, what principle do you value most?
Failing doesn’t have to mean you have failed. If you can put yourself in a mindset that says “I’m going to look at why this didn’t work, learn from it and utilize that information to improve” you will take something that is a “failure” and you’ll gain a unique understanding from it that will help you improve whatever it is you do. In all honesty a lot of all writing music and developing skills as a musician is trying something, making an unpleasant sound and trying it again untilI you get it to sound good. That’s why real growth and learning is so hard, you have to put yourself in situations and a mindset that stretches what you know. You have push your current understanding and ability’s to their limits and very very likely fail… a lot! But when we realize failure is just part of the process we can utilize it not only as a valuable tool but, we can also leave behind the fear of failing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My main focus when I play music is to communicate what I’m experiencing in my life and connect with people in a way that is completely unique. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. When you hear music and you really understand and connect with it it, that feeling is like none other. It brings people together and breaks down walls. Being able to relate with people on that level of emotion and feeling is something that inspires me everyday to make music and continue to get better.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok to start this off I have to say I’m a coffee fiend so I’d probably hit up one of my favorite coffee shops in Boulder, Gabbee coffee. It’s some of the best coffee I’ve ever had and I’m a coffee snob so that means a lot.. Next I’d probably take them to a record store in Denver, Wax Trax records. Amazing record store with a lot of character and history at it. I would definitely spend way too much money there. After that I’d go on what I call a “guitar safari” it’s basically going to a bunch of different music stores and trying out guitars and gear, it’s nerd stuff. One of the must go spots would be Monkton guitars in Broomfield. I’d also love to catch a show at either Cervantes masterpiece in Denver or the Moxi theater in Greeley.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely shoutout to my dad for igniting my passion for music. Nkosi Roma for inspiring with his own passion and encouraging me to pursue mine. And anyone who’s ever supported my passion and believed in me. Rex, Chris, Danny, Ben. The list goes on.
