We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Creason and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paige, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
As many know, photography is a very competitive industry. Because of that, it can be intimidating to reach out to people for help or ask for advice. I’ve found that any successful photographer or creative is going to be more than willing to help you out because, at one point, they were in the same position you were. That being said, listen to constructive criticism, but stay confident in yourself and your ability to grow!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
While being paid to go to sporting events is cool, there’s so much more to sports photography than that. There is something so inspiring and heartwarming about being able to document an athlete’s achievements. The athletes that you get to photograph have been working close to their whole lives to be where they are. It’s easy to go out and photograph sports just because it’s fun, but it’s a whole different ballgame when you photograph to document an athlete’s hard work. Without the athletes dedicating their lives to their sport, we as photographers wouldn’t be able to do what we do. It’s important to recognize that these athletes have poured their heart into their sport, and we must do the same with our photography as a gift to that athlete. In 1st Peter 4:10, it reads “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” This bible verse is what I use as fuel to keep me going, knowing that I’m not just there to build my skills, I’m there to share my God-given gift with the athletes I photograph.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While I am not a Denver local, I have been there a time or two and know some good places. If I were back in town, I would visit Coor’s field. This stadium is incredibly beautiful and a fun, welcoming environment. Afterward, I would hit Illegal Burger for a late dinner. I would also make it a priority to go to a Nuggets game at Ball Arena!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout would definitely go out to Jean Fruth. She has been my biggest inspiration, not only from her beautiful photographs, but the genuine, and ambitious person that she is. When she speaks about photography and baseball, you can truly feel her passion through her words. She has been nothing but supportive and enthusiastic about my journey in sports photography and I look up to her as a person and a photographer. She is always looking to grow in her craft, and it’s incredibly inspiring.
