We had the good fortune of connecting with Peg Luke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Peg, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have pursued my creative career because I felt “a call” of sorts by my Higher Power (God) when I was seven years old. I remember the place and situation like it was yesterday. Now that I am 62 years old, I look back on the motivation like it was a “fire” inside of me. One that resides in me to this day.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This a long story, that is still not finished. The beginning of my story is set in the classical music world. The years, the practice, the money that made my classical music work was dedication and perseverance to my craft. Yes, it was incredibly hard. I faced a lot of rejection and doubt. But my faith and my support from teachers, colleagues and family and most importantly my inner connection to my most loving God kept me going.
I found myself after graduating college trying to do a regular 9-5 job but I kept getting gigs and requests to teach.
That finally led me out of a regular work schedule to finally after many years, successfully teaching at the University level.
After many years, I took a big leap.
I decided to just go out and do what my soul was directing me to do. I quit teaching and went into a performance career. I found myself doing close to a dozen Carnegie Hall performances and going around the world recording flute on a classical scale.
Then my world changed.
I got married at age 50 for the first time, my parents passed over and I found myself halfway across the country in a new state.
My soul was grieving and I did not have anywhere to turn. I found myself turning to God and one day I had a producer contact me from out of the blue. He had heard me play flute and was impressed. He wanted to work with me and I agreed. But I wanted to do a project that was not “run of the mill”. We decided to go forward with the project that was dedicated to my parents. This project turned into a beautiful healing, meditative project called “Psalm Space”. From there it garnered some attention. My career shifted in a way that led me into the Christian music world. I have not looked back.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My husband and I moved to Colorado three years ago. When we got here I was experiencing a lot of pain. In the emergency room, they clinically diagnosed me with a very rare autoimmune disease called Mesenteric Panniculitis. When the pandemic came, I took the first vaccine and had horrible reactions to it physically. I was doctor ordered not to receive any more vaccines through injection. So, this has prevented me from seeing people and going places. I have spent over 3 years of my life protecting my health and hoping for better options to be protected from covid-19. It has been difficult to say the least when it comes to living life today. But again, my faith and my family have brought me through this part of my life. Having a rare, painful and scary disease was not part of my plan. But, this disease has taught me to love life even in its simplest form. I continue to record and promote my music remotely. I continue to have the most incredible people around me, my “circle” of people that helps my music get out and helps me continue to promote my message of beauty in life and love from God. These people include music lawyers, music producers and music promoters. I am so blessed. My husband and I have really enjoyed living in Greeley Colorado and seeing the mountains every morning when we wake up. What a gift and blessing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, there are so many people that deserve credit and recognition in my success. From music teachers to family to friends and finally to a group of people that range in talent and scope of expertise that make my music brand work. Having that professional circle of people around you that you can trust is deeply important.
