We had the good fortune of connecting with Rikki Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rikki, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I love being able to share someone’s story. Whether it’s a personal one or one of a business that they are so passionate about. With videography and photography I can do just that! The ability to work alongside someone to create a visual piece of art that inspires many more is so powerful. Spreading a message to reaches a community or the whole world is just beautiful.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a full time videographer and photographer and it actually all started for me out of pure accident. While I worked in retail I met a YouTuber who had just moved to Orlando, Florida. Him and I got to chatting and slowly I began to film videos for him as I learned exactly what I was doing. It was a long and challenging road of practicing and learning all on my own via YouTube videos and mentors sharing information. I wouldn’t change the way that I did things though because it taught me to always persevere and push through no matter the obstacle. I learned to never fear starting conversations and taking the biggest of leaps for what I love. Because of that I’ve been able to work with some incredible people and share their stories with beautiful videos that inspire others. That’s the most rewarding thing about this career path, the fact that millions of people are watching these videos. People who may be going through a tough time or need that bit of inspiration and after they’ve watched it they leave feeling those exact things.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Recently work has me in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina which I’ve never lived in haha. BUT I have brought my friends to Market Commons which I lovely little spot with a wonderful juice spot called Loleo. It’s just a great spot to grab a coffee or juice and walk around!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh man there’s so many people I could mention. It all started with meeting Scott Herman years ago while I worked retail. He was the first one to really give me my “break” I had been working retail for a few years and when I met him he was so open to working with me as a new videographer and teaching me ropes. My family as well, for always supporting me in my journey. I’ve always been all about experiences and without their support I wouldn’t be where I am now. Lastly my girlfriend lexie, she’s traveled around with me, kept me from just giving up on the toughest of projects, and she’s my biggest fan.
