We had the good fortune of connecting with Ron Fortier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ron, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ron – My father was a born storyteller and would keep me and my siblings enraptured by his stories of growing up in a small town, then going off to the South Pacific to fight in
World War II. At the age of 5, he gave me a comic book and my life was changed
forever. By the time I was in high school, all I wanted to do was be a writer. I attended St.
Thomas Aquinas High School, a Catholic school and there encountered my mentor, Sister
Mary Raymunda. She soon saw my love of reading and writing and encouraged it any
way she could, to the point of predicting that one day I would be a published writer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started writing comics in the mid-1980s and am best known for my work on The Green Hornet and The Terminator series, both published by the former Now Comics out of
Chicago. I later went on to write such characters as Rambo, Peter Pan and Popeye. In the
past thirty years I’ve developed my own characters ala Mr. Jigsaw, a comedy super hero
and The Boston Bombers, an alternate world adventure. Prose wise, I manage Airship 27
Production, a publisher of novels and anthologies based on the classic pulp heroes of the
1930s and 40s. Via this imprint I write the Captain Hazzard series based on a long
forgotten character and my own creation, Brother Bones The Undead Avenger; my
homage to the masked vigilantes ala the Shadow and the Spider, but with a more horrific
element.
Writing is never easy, it demands discipline and determination. At times the muse simply
won’t cooperate, while at others I can’t shut her up. All of us have God given gifts and if
we choose not to utilize them, then we truly sin. Storytelling is my gift to share with the
world and hopefully in doing so, I not only entertain my readers but at the same time give
glory to God.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
.Fort Collins is nestled at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in North Colorado and has lots to offer visitors and tourist. The first place I’d bring people is Estes National Park in
the mountains. Then we have historic Old Town, which the late Walt Disney used as a
template for his small town USA in Disneyland. Of course being only an hour away from
Cheyenne and the heart of the Wild West, there are lots of places to visit ala the Bison
Ranch listed as one of the finest restaurants in America.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My love of writing and telling stories I inherited from my Dad, George Fortier. He gave me my first comic book when I was only five years old. I learned to read via comic books and by the time I was in high school knew I wanted to be part of that world. Sister Mary Raymunda, my teacher for three years of English saw my love of writing and encouraged it to point of predicting that one day I would be a published author.

I’d like to shout out writer Mike Baron, two time Eisner Award Winner and the creator of
both Nexus and the Badger. (baron.m@comcast.net)
