We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabréna AKA CurlyMessyBun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabréna, what do you attribute your success to?

My audience without a doubt, without them I’d quite literally be nothing, but also staying true to myself! I think a lot of people fear they have to become something else or do what others do in order to be successful, but I’ve done just that by continuing to stay 100% myself.

I personally don’t measure my success by how much money I’ve made from CurlyMessyBun. I measure it by how many people I’ve helped. That to me means more than any amount of money ever could.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I’d have to say the fact that I feel like I was put on this earth specifically to help people. If you know my story, you’d know that while I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth it was also taken away at a young age. None of this has been easy, especially since I’m a one woman operation. I’ve thought about quitting an endless amount of times, but I just know there are people out there that need me & my voice. My stories are 100% authentic & things that I actually go through in my day to day life as a twenty-something. While I keep a lot of my life private, I do share the things that people often think they’re the only ones that go thru.

I have no problem showing my scars & I’m absolutely most proud of giving people a relatable millennial that they can look to & see that everything isn’t all roses & daises. Social media gives us a false reality with the “relationship goals”, rented jets, & picture perfect lives. I adore that I’m a recognizable brand not only in my community but literally worldwide. A friend once heard somebody mention my brand in a bar, that was crazy to hear. My voice reaches unbelievable places like Australia, the UK, France, Spain, Kenya, & so many more. In 2020 I was nationally recognized for my podcast, which was super awesome & still makes me very proud.

I like to keep my eggs in multiple baskets, so I have more projects in the works that will be branched off from the CurlyMessyBun that I’m super excited to announce!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d most definitely have to go down to the restaurant, which most people know as Welton Street. They’re like family to me & the food is always delicious. For an event, Munchies & Mimosas if one was happening – always an amazing time! From there it pretty much depends on the unpredictable weather & my social battery lol.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother, she’s always number one. My aunt has also supported my brand tremendously. Really all my family & close friends deserve credit in my butterfly story & what I’ve done thus far. They’re always there to support me & allow me to bounce ideas off them – even when they know I don’t listen haha. Lastly, my audience deserves all the credit.
