We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Wootton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
One of the most important decisions I’ve implemented into my life is investing into myself. By investing yourself I don’t mean excessive shopping sprees or retail therapy but taking the actions that brings growth and balance to your life. Personally, for me, it’s furthering my technique and education. I’m constantly looking for ways to up my game and that can come in many forms like investing in new camera equipment, teaching myself new skills and providing higher quality images for my brands or simply reading a book. I’ve been able to learn so much by attending workshops hosted by certain individuals I wanted to learn from. Since then, I have decided to implement all of my knowledge over the past couple years and be a host of my own workshops. Providing my knowledge to others through collaborative events is one of the most exciting parts of my journey so far!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Taking the extra step and creating something by substantial outside of social media is important to me.  I started a small business called Rag Proper. Rag Proper is a clothing brand that showcases the rebellious and reluctant yet true western side of the culture into a mixture of one. I wanted to create something for everyone in the industry. You don’t have to be sewn one way to belong. The second part of my busy schedule is Freelance Modeling/Content Creator who I have branded as “Retro Amiga”. My goal is to inspire and teach induvials through my platform. For brands, my goal is to drive sales, professionally market your brand and create brand awareness. Neither of them we’re an easy start but 3 years ago I saw an opportunity to connect & be a positive voice to others through something we all love, western fashion. I created my base in western fashion then slowly found my niche. Once, I figured out WHAT I could do with this outlet I hit the ground running. I learned a lot along the way through trial and error. The most important lesson is patience and if you want it bad enough you have to refuse to give up. Often times, throwing in the towel crossed my mind but then the world would never know my brand and my story. The goal for my brand is to touch the lives of others, to provide a safe haven and bring them something proud to represent.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend Buena Vista or Grand Lake. They aren’t that far from each other. If you’re interested in camping/fishing/arc trails both are great places. The sxs trails in Buena Vista are beautiful. I personally recommend elephant rock for trails and camping. Then fly fishing the neighboring rivers. The bakeries and coffee shops in town are delicious. Grand Lake is a beautiful mountain town. You can rent any watercraft and enjoy a day on the lake, enjoy shopping and catch a few brews from the local bars. One Love was one of my favorite places to eat in Grand Lake.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have been a huge influence in my life. They’ve allowed me the freedom to explore, adventure and experience new things. I’m very grateful for the trust and support they’ve portrayed me over the years. Next, one of my dear friends, Emily Grunenthal a Colorado photographer has been such a huge a support. I’m blessed to have found such a like-minded creative individual to bounce ideas back n forth with then bring them to life with. My dad always told me “You’re a product of your environment” and that statement has stuck with me for a long time. It’s one of the most honest statements you’ll do surround yourself by individuals who are like-minded and uplifting with goals.
